there is a war table mission that stands out if you conscripted the mages, and it consists of fiona going to cullen and pretty much begging for mercy for a couple young mages. it’s a really rough one. this is the text:
A military dispatch lies on the table beside a note:
Commander,
Three mages attacked the watch and attempted to escape into the mountains. At least we assume they wanted to escape: None made it past the former templar at the gate. The other soldier on the gate, sergeant Alia, was hit with lightning spells, but may recover in time. The mages are in the stockade, awaiting judgment.
Knight-Captain Briony
The note beside it is written in a shaky hand:
Commander Cullen,
I am sure you have already been informed of the regrettable attack on the soldiers guarding the gate. Those responsible are young, and the young often do not weigh the consequences of the future against the impulses of the moment. You and I, however, know consequence as an old friend. Please bear this in mind when judging them.
Fiona
I really really wish we got more insights like this into the mages and templars within the Inquisition, and it’s very curious to me that Fiona goes to Cullen instead of anyone else. Mine’s a Cullen-blog, not going to deny that, lol, but he was also Meredith’s chosen second, and his name is inseparable from the Kirkwall Circle and all its abuses.
Of course, that may also have been the reason to reach out to him first. It’s his soldiers, so the news would likely go up to him first before the rest of the Inquisition, but I wonder if she’s gambling on him not wanting to see anything like Kirkwall again.
Leliana and Cullen are the only two choices for the mission. Leliana banishes the mages, and Cullen says let them chill in the stockades for a bit, which was said to cause grumbling, since that’s the only punishment he meted out for nearly killing an Inquisition soldier.
It’s a very intriguing War Table mission for me, for a number of reasons, and I quite like it? I wish we had more like it: less saving the world and more dealing with the very human side of all the choices we make. It’s one of the better war table missions for the depth it offers, in my opinion. I wish we had more like it.
