as close as we could get to meeting on a wide dusty plain each of us a little speck with a blade I say approach, old foe so come near, so come near so us two, us two, us two become absolutely clear and wake up in a basket or a blanket or a pool or a hospital room and start looking for each other again and when things get real when teeth actually break when finally someone loses an eye oh, doesn’t the baby doesn’t the baby arrive so approach, old foe so come near so us two, us two, us two raise our flaming blades up high and feel the soreness in our shoulders from the last time and start looking for each other again and start looking for each other again

Dark Studio 03:26
the eagle over the house is called dark studio dark studio is real and always lofting over and over and over and oh sitting up on staging in insulation air I heard something the sweetness in my breathing I held myself and saw where I was bleeding a wave over itchy eyes I am a light I say fuck all y’all I know what I’m I am a light I say fuck all y’all and goodnight

Dig Down 02:55
there are a few places I’ll go one is the swamp behind the house and the pile of beams nearby I also know, and I also go to the logging road in our uninvention of all these men of a medieval time, age nine and only when I try to go back to these spots I realize they’ve been messed with a little bit there is a voice singing low and soft to me, don’t go don’t go rooting, come on you digging down, you snap out of it but some people built a world on top of a world and then I was born and became a world if my friends lived nearby I would go and drift into them but they all live far away and I am wanting badly to dig down I know there will be bones and burnt buildings and huge men with steam in their noses I know there will be things beyond my shovel’s blade I say that’s okay coming in from the snow and closing the door I remember the stove

all along all along alna by the dried up marsh where the school buses park you let down your long arms and yelled after us, I love you I love you, boys holding her hand I yelled back to you I don’t, I don’t love you and I went to, I went to homeroom I left you there, impaled and I went to school in 2005 or something you got down from the stake somehow and after fifteen years of waiting around now you and I are folded up under the house you said to me like you always said to me you never know where you’ll end up hunched beside your son digging frozen sewage in 2021 loved loved once, and again all along alna

when I was young, younger than before I never saw the truth hanging from the door us all were falling, always falling either fighting or listening to pink moon in the car through the trees up the river on the way to school I thought this place was your ashes the way you talked about it still warm from your crash landing and wasn’t I born in the wind of you leaving and fallen family thieving stacking wood and sleeping now I’m older see it face to face now I’m older gotta get up now I’m older gotta get up gotta get up gotta get up gotta get up, clean the place gotta get up, gotta get up, clean the place

waking up for water i know I heard you say where’s my living story where’s my living coat wet from being worn in wetlands dry from rocky mountain high not a papery wafer more like a saber tooth tiger she’s stuck out on the ledge with another right behind her not a beast upstairs asleep or a bald head breaking down my door but a little wedge of cold cold sky the old empty tomb is still empty and old the towering boulder is still rolled it is still rolled and if I am included i don’t feel included so I’m gonna go look for water i’m gonna go look for water i’m gonna go look for water i’ll be right back i’ll be right back i’ll be right back i’ll be right back

only reaching blindly into blankness with frantic bare hands did I ever really try to understand and only with the open sky so lonely and empty did I ever really walk or stand beneath it in the middle on nowhere (x4) I am breathing of the same thing that looks blue above the mountains in the middle of nowhere and there’s something strong and wise like the sun or a lion that is sifting through the ashes of my mind and it’s dangerous and scary to be living ignorantly like I do but imagine what it’d be like if I knew that I’m nowhere I am nowhere (x3)

in our tunnel room i hear these two come in to sing with us the night will knit itself you won’t be included but they leave too soon and I’m left without they walk back to air and light and I’m let down in this room everything has a sound put all together, it says finish building your house it started when I read that thing I wasn’t ready for journey to the lord of power so you and I, now we stay in not knowing, knowing not a word to sing throwing dust into the mouth of the thing in the forever of the cave’s drip dripping and the echo of two bicycles clicking away singing alone getting cold in the lines we know the night will knit itself you won’t be included

Gems 02:17
what’s that little snapping sound off and down the hall it’s someone snapping gems off the cavern wall it’s someone taking it all get down real low help me cover up these coals we’re not moving til we hear em go back to the desert of your life and home where we came from and had lived for however long up over town, little idea way too loud filling up little house until the thing we held up high was collapsing finally so out into the street, planet blurring I saw real life in the morning and a whispered little warning

about

We recorded this in Simi's house. Zoe, Simi, Annie, and Kenzie made these scrappy songs shine. Mikey mixed and mastered it. Joni gave us some advice. Alex and Thomas contributed in huge ways too.

This music is at home in backyards, living rooms, and basements, so it feels wrong to chuck it into the smooth and glassy whirlpool of the world-wide web; it feels wrong to record it at all. But here it is! We left it as simple and raw as we could - especially the singing. These recordings are imperfect, and that's just how they'll stay. If you listen closely, you can hear someone washing dishes, the clearing of throats, the scampering of cats, the clunking of drum hardware, wavering voices, and the whine of cheap microphones. Let it be so!
