My hot take is that just because all the fun, enjoyable, and memorable parts of Veilguard are there Despite executive meddling and dev abuse, doesn't mean they are Not in fact there and us unironic Veilguard enjoyers are just a bunch of silly little gooses who made those parts up
I have seen folks say the devs must be feeling pretty insulted that people are finding something good about what they know is not their best work... And idk, I hope that instead, they are feeling grateful and relieved that, despite everything, what they created still touched people's hearts.
having anti punitive justice morals sucks because you want to say "man that guy sucks he should get hit with hammers until he dies" but you also want to make it clear you don't think anyone should be put in charge of the 'hit people with hammers until they die" machine.
Back when i worked i spent 8 hours packaging chicken skewers and the first day i was so exhausted that i couldn't stop shaking and whenever i closed my eyes to sleep i kept seeing chicken skewers and i couldn't get the smell out of my clothes so i did my best to picture images of The Beatles instesd but they kept fading & turned into chicken skewers like in some horrible nightmare and i was miserable

the best kind of character writing i think doesn't confine its characters to having one or two specific narrative foils or parallels but instead writes every character as having traits that both contradict and mirror the others, like splitting a beam of light through a refracting prism
there really are few emotions i find more compelling in a story than "you should be afraid of me. please don't be afraid of me"
