“WE were all perfectly capable of wounding ourselves, but which of us is capable of curing what we’ve done. It’s the same with misdeeds; any of you can wound yourselves, can’t you, whenever you like? But you can’t cure yourself whenever you like. So have a God-fearing mind; be faithfully a Christian; do not be ungrateful for grace. Acknowledge the Doctor; the sick never cure themselves. —Sermon 160, 7”
John E. Rotelle, Daily Meditations with St. Augustine

“Many sins are even committed by people weeping and groaning in their distress.”
John E. Rotelle, Augustine Day by Day

“Our exile here on earth is very short, and our native land is timeless. Here we seek devotion to God, but there we rest.”
John E. Rotelle, Augustine Day by Day
