message 1: by Samuel (new)

Samuel Hm... I don't think I have thought of American Gods as "superhero fiction". But... maybe? And I thought this list was for "literary treatments" (e.g. prose, text, etc.) though there are a lot of votes for (great) graphic novels here, too. Is there a list for just "superhero novels"?

message 2: by Monica (last edited Dec 30, 2013 08:26AM) (new)

Monica I think this list started as a novels about superheroes list, but it evolved a bit over time for better or worse. Hence the included graphic novels.

I think I would argue that American Gods should/can be included, but I can see both sides.

message 3: by Ric (new)

Ric Croxton Van Plexico Sentinel books are must read for any fan of the Avengers. Also check out his Mars book. If you like John Carter or the old Thundarr the Barbarian cartoons you will Blackthorn.

message 4: by Ric (new)

Ric Croxton Wayne Reinagel's Pulp Heroes series is amazing. I've kidded him on the Book Cave podcast about having everything including the kitchen sink. I meant it as a compliment. Wayne is one of the few writers that can have a cast of thousand in his books and able to give each their own voice.

message 6: by Barry (new)

Barry I think Watchmen, and any other comics, should be removed from this list. It's supposed to be about superhero FICTION, not graphica. That's why it's a unqiue list.

message 7: by Michael (new)

Michael Bacon American Gods does not include superheroes. Please remove it.

message 8: by Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (last edited Apr 08, 2015 08:13AM) (new)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* The list creator needs to put more exceptions in the description. Otherwise if a librarian removes books based on the comments, it may not be what the creator intended. I assume it's for fiction novels only, but it doesn't actually state that. They also used comics, etc., in their tags.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* Removed American Gods since it does not include superheroes.

message 10: by Keith (new)

Keith What's The Dresden Files doing on this list?

Amy (I'd Rather Be Sleeping) Second Keith's question as to why The Dresden Files are here.

message 14: by Ren (new)

Ren Fear Her Wrath by James Murnau (Goodreads has him listed as Tim James) needs more readers! I need more people to geek out with! The characters are super fun, the lore is fascinating and it's a great take on the whole superhero genre. It's a pretty obvious Batman tribute (it makes a lot of references to Batman in the book) but it's like what if Batman was a teenage girl with anger issues and a more limited budget. Instead of being a rich guy coming down to save the normal people, it's someone who has experienced the corruption of her city day in and day out.

Katherine Black The Simon Superhero trilogy by Lucas Mayberry is one of the best series I've read. The first two ar really good, but the third one blew me away.
