I find Canada endlessly fascinating -- nature, people, history, society, all of it. I can well understand that it's a heritage you're proud of!

So let's hope there will be many more contributions to this list ...

Isn't Handmaid's Tale set in what used to be the U.S.?

Cambridge Mass, I believe, but Atwood is Canadian.

Oh, I interpreted this list as the book being set there, whether the author was Canadian or not.

Susanna is right -- that's what I had in mind. Author's nationality is of no importance, but the book itself should principally be set in (or deal with) Canada or Canadians.

ETA: Same applies to "The English Patient," btw (and yes, a few of that novel's characters are actually Canadians -- but their nationality is merely incidental to the story line, not a central feature).

I'm all for claiming Saul Bellow as one of our own, but I don't believe Ravelstein is set in, or has anything to do with, Canada.

Also, what about the two books by William Shatner? Star Trek Memories seems to be a behind the scenes look at, well, Star Ship Enterprise and its crew. I'm not sure how much of that series was filmed in Canada (if any part of it at all)? Shatner's memoires (Up Till Now) probably have some connection to Canada to the extent they're dealing with his upbringing -- but does anybody happen to know how much of the book that actually covers?
