Ella Enchanted (Ella Enchanted, #1)

Ella Enchanted is like a koala. A big, soft, cute koala.
And if you mess with it, it'll use it's big, sharp, not-so-cute claws to tear your face off.
Seriously.
It's just a cute little fairy tale for teenage girls about a silly little world. Accept it for what it is. Leave it at that. Don't delve any futher. Don't consider it from a feminine perspective, don't rationalize it from a historical stand-point, don't try to analyze is for hidden metaphors or literary value.
Just read, rinse, repeat and move on.

You do NOT want a face full of this!
ETA: I have just seen the movie for Ella Enchanted. Trust Disney to f*#$ everything up! Cary Elwis, what have they done to you!

Sorry, AH! Didn't mean to rain on your parade. Though, Ella Enchanted the book is NOTHING like the movie.
How? How can I be alone on this!? :P I like Ann Hathaway, I like Hugh Darcy (or whatever his name is), I like Minnie Driver, I like Cary Elwis - but this movie was just a little too cheesy for me!AH - they used the concept and a couple of the ideas and pretty much changed everything else.
Sounds like the Percy Jackson movie....liked the movie by itself (as if I didn't read the books)but was disappointed that they skipped major characters. Loved the books.... Hey, that was done by Disney as well. Do you see a trend?
I LOVE the movie! But I am like Tatiana, I didnt read the book yet either. I have been wanting to read it though, Hmmm....wonder if I will be disappointed since they seem to be different and I love the movie so much? Hmmm.........Nice review, funny and informative!
I actually liked the movie (which I saw before reading the book) and the book. Then again, I'm all for cheese in my movies, so that's why it appealed to me. I was surprised when I read the book as it was completely different, other than character names, from the movie, but once I got past that, I could treat them as two separate entities. It's what you have to do anymore when books are made into movies--they often get so botched and distorted from the original material.
This book is one of my friend's favorite books. When she saw the movie, she was shaking with rage. I saw the movie before the book (and don't even think I saw all of it) so it didn't bother me.
I can understand the shaking with rage - though it's just what I've come to expect these days. Why even bother buying the story? Just create your own called "Jella Jenchanted" with Jella and prince Smarming and their magical adventures in A'Frell! It's perfectly legally legitimate!
Hugh Dancy and Cary Elwes are fantastic but I am not crazy about this movie either. I'll watch it if it comes on tv or something, but I am more with you on this Kat...I was definitely cringing through parts of it. In particular that ridiculous "Somebody to Love" performance...what the heck was that?
I scared my little cousins to death watching this movie; I was enraged. Objectively, I can see it being a fine movie to like set apart from the book, but at the time I was like "Wait, haha, why is that happening... Guys, wait... that's not right... what... no... no... NOOOOOOOOO!". Children were crying, furniture broken, bad scene all around.
I read the book.It is amazing!
Don't listen to what the other people say, it's different but better than the movie!
Yeah, you're not alone! Watched it before I read it. Book was definitely better. While reading, I was feeling glad the story was different from the movie :)
Make it easy for yourself DO NOT EVEN COMPARE THE MOVIE TO THE BOOK. It is a world of difference and the book is wayy better. Just leave it at that and move on.
Loved this book soooooo much. I think I have read it at least six times, and it still doesn't get old. The movie is sweet, but the book... Well the movie doesn't even come close to the book.
This was my favorite book as a young girl. The movie is a shame. It was a horrible representation of the book.
Quite honestly, I just have to imagine that the movie is a loving parody of the book and move on. I do wish they'd make a more serious adaptation, as it's one of my favorites from way back, but if you just observe the movie as light hearted, if somewhat insubstantial, fluff with a nod to the book it's not that bad.
I agree about the movie! That’s why I made a petition for Netflix to create a series or movie that more accurately follows the book.https://www.change.org/p/netflix-netf...
