11/22/63 is close to replacing The Shining as my favorite Stephen King novel.
11/22/63 combines two of my favorite things The Kennedy's and time travel. I was hesitant to read this book because I've been told that newer Stephen King novels aren't that great. I first decided to read it a couple years ago when The Hulu show came out but I still didn't do it. I almost watched the show but I stopped myself(I try to always read the book before watching the movie/tv show). Then last year(2018) I rediscovered my love of Stephen King and started reading and rereading his novels and short story collections, I made a vow that if I could find a copy of 11/22/63 for cheap I would buy and read it. Enter Half Priced Books(my happy place) they had the paperback and it was only $2 dollars(YES!) so I bought it and...
then it sat on my bookshelf for 4 months.
I finally got tired of looking at it so I picked it up and got to reading.
On Friday November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas an act of violence was committed that changed The United States of America in a profound way. The President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated. For a certain generation it is what 9/11 is to my generation. Everyone knows where they were when they heard about it. That act of Political Violence is when most historians say "The Sixties" began.
I've watched a lot of documentaries about JFK and without fail they pontificate on how different the world would be had Kennedy lived. Its mostly how great everything would have been but maybe things would have become much much worse. That's how I've always felt. Without the assassination The Civil Rights bill is never passed, despite how he's been painted Kennedy was a war hawk and he probably would have escalated Vietnam. These opinions are my own so if you disagree....
Good for you!
I don't care!
11/22/63 is a monster of a book both in page count and in the amount of research Uncle Stephen did. It gives you a lot to think about.
If you could change the past, would you?
Should you?
11/22/63 is an imaginative, captivating and plauseable work of Historical Fiction. Who knew Uncle Stephen was such a romantic?
A must read!
