My Name is Red is as gorgeous as these illuminations.

description

The narrative flows with the weight of such a lush artistic style.

description

It is a dazzling brilliance that creates a languid beauty...

descriptiondescription

...that bogs the story down so much I couldn't tell you what happened. But this is a "lush" read and my review shouldn't dissuade you from reading it.

Hope you feel better soon, Neville!

Ivonne Rovira But, with a book this beautiful, who cares? Just think of it as a medieval picture book or an illuminated Book of Days in Latin.

I did, Ivonne, and that's why it got as many as 3 stars from me. :)

message 34: by Orwellka (last edited Jun 07, 2022 11:21AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Orwellka One gets the impression that love and murder plots were not really thoroughly thought out and someone pushed them into the history of illuminations, so that they are killing he pace of reading. Indeed, if you cannot fall asleep, just read a couple of pages.

Randy Rhody So exhausting to read more than a few pages at a time. I agree with your appraisal. And I lost all interest in who the murderer might be. But yes, the literary achievement has to be acknowledged.
