The Fur Country

In the edges of the Earth every decision can signify life or death. Lieutenant Jasper Hobson and a detachment of soldiers undertake a journey to the northernmost parts of the world to establish a new fur factory where hunting is still plentiful. The intrepid Pauline Barnett joins just for the adventure and the experience of living in the most north latitudes of the earth. Astronomer Thomas Black tags along to observe an astronomical phenomenon of great worldwide importance. The inclement weather of a hostile land, the freezing mortal cold and other unknown dangers will test their resolve to the extreme.
An incredible journey to northern Canada, nearing the arctic ocean, where nature is displayed like a marvelous wonder as beautiful as deadly; with frozen terrains from horizon to horizon, icebergs as big as mountains, nights that last six months, and more. Forgetting the fact of the horrible hunting of innocent wildlife, leaving that aside, or at least trying to… an excellent classical adventure, with a very unexpected ending. None of the characters are very memorable, although the story is, even nearly a decade after reading it. You can always count on good old Verne to tell you a fantastic story in some remote forgotten place of the world.

★★★☆☆ Journey to the Center of the Earth [3.5]

★★★☆☆ The Lighthouse at the End of the World
★★★☆☆ Dick Sand, A Captain at Fifteen
★★★☆☆ Miguel Strogoff
★★☆☆☆ Will of an Eccentric [2.5]

Friolento.

Muchas gracias Lady A.! Espero que tenga un hermoso finde también <3
Fantastic review Federico! It’s pretty cold and snowy where I live right now, so this book might be perfect! ❄️

This sounds interesting (despite the fur factory). Nice review, Federico. I'm coming to know of other works by the author through your reviews.

Haven't heard of this one but it sounds interesting - gotta love a good, chilly adventure. Great review, Federico!

This sounds so cool! & as it takes place on my homeland, I will make sure to keep an eye out to try to read it at some point :) Great review! thanks for bringing this to my attention xx
Thanks for the heads up. Always love reading about my country! Perfect read for the winter too ❄️ Great review Federico!
Chantel wrote: "This sounds so cool! & as it takes place on my homeland, I will make sure to keep an eye out to try to read it at some point :) Great review! thanks for bringing this to my attention xx"Thank you Chantel! I think the story's setting was somewhere near Cape Bathurst. I was just as surprised as you when I also read Verne's Lighthouse at the End of the World, which setting was around Cape Horn, south Argentina. I have to review that one as well xD
Tina wrote: "Thanks for the heads up. Always love reading about my country! Perfect read for the winter too ❄️ Great review Federico!"Thank you Tina! Hope you enjoy it too if you ever get to it :D
Olaf and Joey in the GIFs! What fun! 😄Glad you enjoyed this short, Feddie. Bookmarking the link. Thanks much! 😊

Couldn't help myself lol. Thank you Rosh! Hope you like it too if you ever get to it :)
I think for Jules it was an isolated place beyond any place, a totally unknown and practically uninhabited world. Ty for this review Frederico.
Murray wrote: "I think for Jules it was an isolated place beyond any place, a totally unknown and practically uninhabited world. Ty for this review Frederico."In 1870's with wildlife still running around, it probably was at the time lol. You are welcome Murray !
LOL, sounds gripping and you know how much I love cold-weather thrillers, then I saw your first gif. 🤣

Thanks for this great review and the link Federico! As someone who hasn't seen the sun for many weeks (the winters are dark here) I only want to read stories about beaches and warm weather right now. My vitamin D levels are probably dangerously low. 🌞🌞🏖😎
inciminci wrote: "Thanks for this great review and the link Federico! Maybe something to read during summer, when you start missing these dark days lol. I can't say I can rec any warm sunny readings. Beach Read by Emily Henry comes to mind, but haven't read it yet xD
Great review! 🙂 I love reading stories set in cold weather locales when it’s freezing out (as it is where I live). That Jack Nicholson/ Shining GIF made me lol!
So glad that you still remember how much you enjoyed reading this, Federico (even after a decade). That's simply amazing. 😊💖

Hanna wrote: "Not the innocent wildlife!!! 😭🤧Leaving that aside as well lol - Lovely review! ❄"
Thank you Hanna! Respecting wildlife, good. Skinning animals, bad :'(
Gracias Myriam!
Great review, Federico! 🙂 Not sure it’s my jam. But it sounds okay. That first gif is everything! Lol!
