A Monster Calls

Oh my, what a beautiful book. What you think it's about and what it's really about are two different things.
But I can't tell you what that is, or I would ruin the superb ending.
I will say this, however. A monster can come in many forms, and it may not be what we expected.
There are things that happen to us that break us, and not because of the act itself, but how we react to it. Part of this is just a conscience that's in good working order. It does what it's supposed to do: keep the world balanced through love and honesty.
The darker the world is, the more the rest of us have to love in order to balance it out. Why else would we even keep trudging through this misery, if not for love?
The side effect of this is that sometimes people believe that their thoughts and actions are unforgivable.
They can call a monster to us in the dark.

Great review Rebbie -I'm almost considering the add but not a fan of scary thrillers/horrors -is this what you would categorize as?

Thanks Melissa. I'm glad you loved it too. :)Jen- No, I actually would not classify this as a horror novel. If anything, it's more of a tearjerker without being overly sentimental.
The only other thing I can think to say about it is that the title fits the story in its own touching way.
Also, it's a quick read. Hope that helps. :)
Great review Rebbie! I have this one on my TBR and planning to read it soon. Film adaptation expected sometime this year!

Thank you for your comments, Tabetha and Roni. I'm glad that you both also enjoyed the book. :)I haven't seen the movie yet, but will probably rent it when it comes out on DVD.
