***Listening to audiobook during turtle walks - July 21-August 6, 2012 ***

This review is solely for the audiobook of Lothaire. Past this is my review of the novel.

My my my.... This audiobook took some getting used to. It took me for like EVER to get used to Robert Petkoff's version of a woman from Virginia. At first I was insulted. Why does everyone make people who live in the mountains sound like cartoons? What's up with that? But after a while (just like with Hunger) I got used to it. --- but it did take forever.

This wasn't my favorite audiobook and that might be because Lothaire's story wasn't my favorite to begin with. We've been building up Lothaire since Hunger and I guess I was just expecting more.

Robert Petkoff did do a bang up job with the male voices, he really needs to work on his inner chick. I must admit that NIX is starting to sound a more tolerable.

While listening to Lothaire, I did realize something. Webb is just like Striker from the X-men (if you think about it). So, does that make Declan - Wolverine? Just curious ;P

If you ask me, it was kind of weak. I mean.... it's LOTAHIRE!! This was supposed to get us inside his head. Show us how freaking EBIL he is... not make us see that he can love. But that's what happened. I mean, it makes me almost shiver to know at the end that he's taking a bunch of kids out Trick or Treating. Is he becoming a softie?

The Characters
I think getting inside of Lothaire's head might have wrecked him for me. I didn't expect him to be like the Wroth Brothers. At least that's what I hoped. And I guess, he wasn't. But he wasn't as RAWR as I felt he could be. I don't know. I really was expecting Lothaire to be a little more sinister. Kind of like the Joker of "Dark Knight". Evil yet super intelligent. That's what Lothaire is supposed to be. And of course insane. I really thought we would touch on that more. But what we got was a lot of hair tugging and seeing it from Ellie's pov.

And then there was Ellie. The backwoods mountain girl who had a really bad accent. I wonder if this kind of upset Virginians. Was it a bit too thick? Totally was the ghost of Ellie May if you ask me. While I did enjoy Ellie her accent just bothered the hell out of me. And I did enjoy how she was made a vampire at the end. I thought that Thad was going to bite her and make her half phantom.

Saroya was a very good character. Yes, she was a bi-atch, but I enjoyed how she talked and thought. She would have done great on a soap opera! What bugged me was how easy it was to get rid of her. I was wanting her to put the smackdown of Ellie's folks or even harpoon Lothaire with something. Or even kill Ellie so that Lothaire would have to ressurect her... or maybe Ellie then possesd Lothaire and it was an all out girl fight. (Come on ladies... seeing Lothaire act like a backwoods woman would have been hilarious!)

La Dorada was a very odd duck. I expected her to be way way way way way spookier. I felt her character ended too quickly too. When she told Lothaire to kill his bride and Ellie then gave her his blood debt book I was like "WTF?!!!" I wanted him to go all MR. SPOCK on Ellie and just fight her... but have his insides screaming "Noooo!" I felt it would have been interesting to read about an inner struggle like that.

The naughties
Jeepers Creepers!! This was the most dirtiest IAD book I have ever read. And kids!! I do NOT like bodily fluids! Just that alone lowered it a star for me. There was so much freaking humping and sucking in this book that it kinda bored me. If we would have had more action or a bit more plot then I totally would have enjoyed this book way more. I mean, I know there is going to be a bit bump and grind here and there... but dear BOB... there was just too much.

THe fresh Blood
A new character to this book was HAG, Lothaire's oracle. I really really liked her. I hope we see more of her.

Thad was in the last book but we got a bit more of him in this one. He's super duper cute and I just love him to death. I hope he gets to be in her YA series. I kinda doubt it but how cute is he?

Squees to the old
OMG! I screamed when MARI showed up in the mirror! Squeed and squeed!! And then I screamed like a scared little girl when Hag cut off her hand! I was wanting Bowen to jump through the mirror and tear her face off like a mad old chimpanzee. But of course that didn't happen.

And then there was NIX and BERTILE!! I love BERTILE!! And who would have guessed that Nix was short for Phenix? I really enjoyed hearing the back story on how Nix and Lothaire met. And now I'm curious, since her name is Phenix, if she will be reborn at the end of the series. And maybe .... just maybe.... the next book will be hers. But do we want her to find her mate so soon? Don't you think that if she does that will definitely mean the end of the series? Or perhaps it will change Nix's character completely. Maybe, I'm not ready, just yet.

I was totally excited that Emma was teaching Ellie how to trace. I was really hoping that she would be pregnant. She hinted that she wanted a baby in Garret's book. I thought that would have been a nice touch. But I was sad panda when we didn't even hear her talk. We just HEARD that she was the teacher of Thad and Ellie.

The OmGs!
While this wasn't the best IAD book we sure did get a lot of info. Especially at the end! I mean, did you read that cliffy? Way to put me on edge and almost push me over!

So, for starters.... Emma is Lothaire's cousin?!! And Demetri was Lothaire's uncle? Fo shizzle? Is that what we were getting at? So, let's back up here. If Lothaire was wanting to get ahold of the Horde and Emma killed Demetri... then why didn't Lothaire take over the Horde then? He was there. Remember... he pointed the way to Lochalin... or something like that. But still.. zomg! So, I wonder if the next book is going to have a lot of Emma action?!!

And then Kristoff is Lothaire's brother?!! Like.... ZO-MY-GAH!! That was a brilliant ending!! What is going to happen next?!! I swear to Bob if Lothaire let's him live then I'll scream. SLICE HIM!

And what about Nix?
Nix is of course still searching for Myst. And now that Lothaire has agreed to go hunt for her, of course, Nix would be no where to be found. I kind of think this is setting up for her rebirth. Maybe she'll come back as a totally different person. And why is she talking about the future. Why does she have to remember to CHANGE things in the future? What could that possibly mean? Curious curious.

Will we ever find Myst?
Could that be how we end the series? I heard speculation how they thought that Myst would be Lothaire's mate... but then I also heard people talk about how they thought Lothaire would be paired up with Nix. I personally think we should find the old girl. I also think that Lothaire would have been better paired with Nix.

The humor
There were some funny parts in this book but not enough to make my sides split. I did enjoy the end when they put a wife beater on him.

Was it worth it?
This could have been a five star book. It could have been. I know a ton of people labeled it as one but it was just too dirty for me... and not enough plot. It was like, "HEY! I found out where you keep the forks... LET'S DO IT!" I mean... come on!! It was just a bit too much.

But this book was necessary... I just didn't dig who K.C. chose as Lothaire's mate.

Who's next?
I can't decide who on earth they will pick to be in the next book. Normally you have someone else in the story over and over again that you can guess will be the next one. But who was in this one? I'm very curious. Does anyone have any guesses? (hide spoiler)]
