Finally I got to read it. Why I have postponed it for this long beats me, because I loved the movie. Anyway, it's one of those books which even with its lack of action it keeps you glued to the pages.

Sagan's writing style is beautiful, fiction or nonfiction. The story here is wonderful. And I think Ellie is 90% me. Never found so much of me in a character.

The debates around science vs religion are a delight to read, as well as the interactions between the protagonists. The whole idea is so well crafted that it almost seems a real thing.

And what got me this time too was Ellie's meeting with 'her father'. It's such an emotional scene and so close to home.

It would have been 5 stars if not for the attention given to some of the side characters, which didn't add much to the story; on the contrary, they made me lose momentum for a while. But it' s a minor thing, compared to the beauty of the story.

If you haven't read it yet, don't waste anymore time.

Jenna ❤ ❀ ❤ Alright, after this wonderful review, I guess I better get around to reading it soon, Claudia. I think I've put it off for so long too for the same reason as you, having loved the movie. But it sounds like I'll love the book even more.

It's more or less the journey of a woman in finding answers and some closure, both about the universe and herself. Can't wait for your thoughts, whenever you'll get to it.

Tara I definitely prefer the movie to the book, but you're right about how interesting the science vs. religion debates were (spoiler alert: yay science! lol). Anyway, glad to hear that you enjoyed this so much, Claudia :)

In the movie there are no redundant scenes, and no focus on side characters But no debates either, from what I can recall. I should rewatch it. One thing is certain: Ellie/Jodie is one of a kind character :)

Agreed! As someone who was “raised Christian” aka had religion crammed down her throat since birth and didn’t much enjoy it lol, I’m definitely team science. I might have to rewatch the movie as well, it’s been a while. And you’re right about Ellie, she’s awesome :)

Jenna ❤ ❀ ❤ Claudia, I have to thank you for the nudge your review gave me to read this. I have thirty pages left and don't want it to end it so decided to prolong it by checking GR :)

I agree about the attention given to some of the minor characters and found it slightly annoying early on. Despite that, this book is phenomenal. Wow.... my head's reeling! So much better even than the movie!

And as for what Hadden does near the end, I can't help but imagine Elon Musk doing something like that in a few years time 😂

Yey, so glad you liked it, Jenna!! 😍 It's such a beautifully written book. The movie lacks the debates, which are a strenght here, but it was great too. I said I will rewatch it, but didn't get to it yet.

Haha, Musk would definitely want to do that. And Bezos too 🤪 (view spoiler)

Jenna ❤ ❀ ❤ Ha, ha, that's a great visual of those two! 😂
