I am 25% in and I have no patience left for this book.
I think if you liked "Bitterblue," you will like "Jane, Unlimited." It has the same annoying to me qualities - it's overwritten, it's unnecessarily convoluted, oversmart, "quirky" (aka "ridiculous"), and often tremendously boring. Just like "Bitterblue," this novel spends too much time on the main character running around and puzzling at everything weird that's going on. It's frustrating and tedious.
But a lot of librarians love it. So clearly there is something brilliant about this book that I didn't get personally.

I'm very relieved that you believe that the novel and you just don't match - not that the novel is generally speaking poorly written. I adore Cashore's novels, although I agree that Bitterblue is the weakest of the bunch.

Lovely review and appreciate the honesty. I love Kristin Cashores' books, but I had a similar issue with Bitterblue. I probably will still read it, but it's good to know beforehand. Thanks!
Thank you for this! I was literally going through all the reviews looking for a comparison to Bitterblue, because that's where my love of Cashore's writing suddenly vanished.
I'm a librarian and I did not love this. I loved Graceling, and I feel bad that I didn't like JU, but no.
Cristina wrote: "nooooo, I LOVED Bitterblue... so I'm hopeful, haha"I won't be surprised if you do like it. After all, our tastes are too often polar opposite:)
Agreed!!! Though of her other books, I loved Bitterblue by far most, then Fire and Graceling. But loathed this completely
I wonder if the quirkiness and seemingly unnecessary detail would make more sense if you finished it. It is weird, certainly. And repetitive perhaps (but that's the genre). But also interesting in a way that a linear story like Bitterblue can't be.
I loved Bitterblue but did not like this book. I was intrigued in the beginning but sped read the last 100 pages so I could be done. If I wasn’t on a reading challenge I would have abandoned this book after 200 pages.
This librarian didn’t get it, either. I really did not like it, although I tried until halfway through to stick with it. Alas, it failed to hold my interest.
Yes this book was super annoying. I read about 75% of it and had to quit cause it just got worse and worse!
I am a third the way through this book, a book I was sooooo excited to purchase because the Gracleing series is like my fav books, but i am so annoyed with the non plot of this book
Think it is so awesome how different we can be, you hated Bitterblue while it is one of my fav books, love this about people, differences rock
