The Wife

In an instant, I became the woman they assumed I'd been all along: the wife who lied to protect her husband.
This book follows Angela and Jason, the picture of a perfect couple on the surface. However, delve a little deeper and you'll find secrets within the currents of the relationship. This book features the inner turmoil of the wife, dealing with allegations against her husband, and the picture of the perfect life beginning to crack.
This book was a slow-paced psychological thriller/drama. Alafair Burke does a great job of describing a realistic account of how allegations are brought to light, the investigation, the media representation, revelations and family life behind closed doors. She does a great job at exploring the inner turmoil of someone who has the decision whether to stay beside, and be loyal to someone, who is alleged to have committed a crime. In addition, this book also features high suspense and many twists and turns as we begin to learn more of the characters throughout the book.
Alafair Burke does a great job in describing these incredibly strong women through out the book.
This had an amazing ending and the last part of the book had me completely hooked. The ending is also slightly open-ended which gives the reader a wonder as to what may happen next (I think this is a stand alone piece of work so the reader can form their own thoughts).
This was my first time reading a piece of work by Alafair Burke and I really enjoyed it !

"I'm so conflicted about Jason's character. In a way this book makes you understand why wives/girlfriends do not immediately leave those accused of these types of crimes- it's a conflict of the good side you know, and the bad side that is reported. Such a warring decision."
