1st to Die (Women's Murder Club, #1)

James Patterson is not my jam. I read a few of the Alex Cross books and while I loved the character, the villains became so deranged I gave up. Awhile back a nurse who was caring for my husband during cancer treatment shared with me her love for this series. She said she looks forward to the new installment each year. On her recommendation I filed it away on my TBR list and now I have read the first book in the series. Am I a fan of the women in the club? Definitely! The way the group formed throughout the book was an interesting narrative and they have complementary skill sets that will clearly be advantageous in future cases. What I was not a big fan of was the narrator. I think I will give the audiobook for #2 a try and if it doesn't work will switch to reading on my Kindle or check out a hard copy.

The thing about James Patterson’s books is that he always has help from other writers. So the strength of the book can be dependent on the author he’s partnered with. Cool that you managed to enjoy this so much, Darla. And sorry to hear about what your husband had to go through.

My husband is doing great and we are thankful!
I agree with you Darla, Patterson is not my jam. Sometimes he will write something that just grabs me and I'm like, great energy here. But, then I think, you are getting formulaic again. I wanted more from this series, but I appreciate your take on it. Wonderful review. On another note - I don't know you personally, but I did read above about your husband. So happy that he is doing well. Sending continued healing energy and light for all of you!

He will soon mark his fifth year of being cancer-free and we are just beginning our adventures in the RV life -- with plans to travel all over the US visiting national parks, quirky tourist sites, and our many friends and family. Now, regarding this series -- I did continue for a few more installments, but have lost interest. Much prefer the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency and the Gaslight Mystery series among others. 🥰📚
Wonderful review, Darla! Patterson is not an author I read these days either. Glad this one worked for you.
