The Farm has a phenomenal premise with well-executed imagery. The grounds of the "farm" and described so that you feel you're there yourself and the characters are all lifelike and realistic. BUT, I didn't like this book as much as I'd hoped I would when I eagerly picked it up. The situations Jane finds herself in the farm lacked the emotion and drama that I'd hoped for. While she was so upset at how confining the farm was, I honestly felt like a lot of the situations weren't that big of a deal and were completely fair under the terms she'd offered to work for the farm. And while I know that Ramos wanted to be true to the soft-spoken, Filipino woman she wanted to portray, I found Jane too meek and boring to really root for her.

Caroline I read a review of The Farm and it sounds very intriguing. I was thinking of sponsoring it for my school's summer reading program but I haven't read it yet. Is there any graphic sex scenes that would make it unsuitable for older teenagers?

Felice Laverne Yes, there is a sex scene in this book that would likely be unsuitable for teens reading this for class. 😊

BookOfCinz AGREED! I wanted to slap Jane more than comfort her. Her tidying up and just being so damn meek was infuriating.

Anika G Thank you for this review! I agree with you. I think Jane’s meekness would have been tolerable if she had grown out of it as part of her character arc. But to see she was still the same in the (way too long) epilogue was really disappointing.

Felice Laverne Agree @BookOfCinz @.anika Jane’s character arc was basically nonexistent. Just a series of (otherwise interesting) events happened AROUND her.

Selena I know how you feel on this one. Sounded like it was going to be so good but it just fell flat.

Mo And how she treats Amalia post Golden Oaks is cringe worthy. I hope Joan doesn't resent her child for having the fortitude and personality that she lacks.
