Beth M I don't know if you experienced this through the audiobook, but Bahni Turpin delivered a 10/10 performance that left me in tears.

Mohini Jugran This review makes me feel that the purpose of this book is somewhat solved..
I hope other people also start to understand that the things aren't as okay as we think them to be..

HeatherH Have you read All American Boys? Similar type of novel, but to me it was a whole lot more powerful!

Charles I grew up in government housing, from birth to age 18, and I have always been aware of the privilege that I have. Although, in my hometown I was looked down upon just like the other people I lived around, when I left the confines of that community I was no longer viewed has a "thug from the projects" my color was taken at face value. Since I was white, clearly I was from a middle class family with a mother and father and was raised on traditional American values. That is why moving away was all it took to escape that past. However, my black/brown friends could never escape those labels. To the general public they were always drug dealers, gangsters, rapists, and thugs. Even those friends that came from traditional households that were middle class or even upper class were always viewed as less human than their counterparts. So i would say that having privilege doesn't have to be "invisible to those who have it" we as a people just have to be more empathetic and aware of the path that others must take to get to the promised land. Not all roads are paved in gold.

I understand Charles. I too am white and I am aware of the privileges that come with being white. But a lot of white people don't. It is our duty to raise awareness that this issue exists because without confronting it we can't understand the resistance to equality.
