I loved this book! I read it several years ago, but the overall story's message still haunts me. It's a story about WWI but from the perspective of two Canadian Indigenous young men.
Highly recommend!

Kathleen You have convinced me to add this book, Debbie. 📚

I'm so glad, Kathleen! I remember attending a conference session chaired by a woman whose family owned a well-known independent bookstore in Edmonton. She soundly recommended this book. I was so excited to hear that, because I was currently reading it at that time and absolutely loving it! BTW, my sister is currently reading it and thoroughly enjoying it so far! I look forward to your thoughts whenever you get a chance to read it!

Tina This is a different take on WWI. I think I might enjoy this. Great review Debbie!

Berengaria I've got this one on my TBR shelf. It seems a slow read. Is it?

Thanks, Tina! Very different take on WWI, and it's written by a Canadian author! I loved it so much that it's on my Favorites bookshelf! This should be a classic!

Hi Berengaria! I read this several years ago (before becoming a GR member), and I do not remember being bored by it at all! I hope you do try it out!

Oh, thanks for clearing that up! Sorry, but I really don't remember anything about the page count and type size. I do remember that I was quite engrossed!

NILTON TEIXEIRA Thanks for the recommendation! I love this author, but I have not read this one yet.

Debbie W. NILTON wrote: "Thanks for the recommendation! I love this author, but I have not read this one yet."

Which book have you read by him? Glad to see that you added this one -it's stellar!

NILTON TEIXEIRA I just downloaded a copy from the library. I will make it my next read, after I’m finished with “The Book of Accidents”.

👍

NILTON TEIXEIRA The novella Wenjack, Born With A Tooth and my favourite (and most disturbing) The Orenda are the one I have read.

I own The Orenda and hope to read it soon!

NILTON TEIXEIRA I hope that you will enjoy The Orenda. It was a solid 5 stars for me, but it is extremely violent. I had to read it in small doses.

I've heard that it is quite violent, so I'm prepared. Thanks for the heads-up, Nilton!

NILTON TEIXEIRA Thanks again for the recommendation, Debbie. I finished it earlier this morning. Although I did not loved it, I was very pleased with the storyline and its development, but mostly with the writing.

Well, that's good to hear, Nilton! Now, I will go over and check out your review!

Susan Thanks for recommending this to me in the comments on your review for The Things We Cannot Say. This definitely sounds like an interesting story and unusual perspective on WWI. Adding it to my TBR! I’ll also take a look at The Poppy Wife.

Canadian Jen I absolutely loved this one too. Great review, Debbie!

Thanks, Jen! I commented on your review as well!

Kimberly Hi Debbie. I just finished this book today. I loved it too! I was wondering about the next one in the series and if X shows up in that one.

Glad you loved it too, Kimberly! I believe Xavier is mentioned, but he's not a main character. A different but interesting story!
