A Monster Calls

Everyone should read this heartbreaking, beautiful novel. It was made into an an equally heartbreaking movie.

I suspect that I Kill Giants (another excellent movie based on the same theme - children dealing with extreme grief and loss) was inspired by A Monster Calls.
Death and grief are hard things to deal with. This lovely novel and these two movies can possibly point the way to moving forward, despite these terrible - but inevitable - events in our lives: the loss of a beloved parent.

Sometimes, when you've had a rough week, you just need a movie so you can point to it and say: SAD MOVIE, THAT'S WHY I'M CRYING! Big girls are not supposed to cry, right? The book was great, but, of course, I remember the movie most.
