Don't take life too seriously. Punch it in the face when it needs a good hit. Laugh at it.
Inspiring! I am genuinely floored by the brilliance of this book! I adored every single one of these amazing characters and the way they were so realistically portrayed. The unique plot, the bitter-sweet tension, and the tender romance all had me mesmerized...but I won't further digress on these elements, as I'm sure they will clearly speak for themselves...
What I do want to shine a light upon is the breathtaking wisdom that abundantly graced these pages and made its way to not only my heart, but deep within--resonating with my soul. (And I'm not only referring to the ingenious Avett Brothers quotes!)
This book was more than a love story. It was more than clever entertainment. It took every wonderful element I long for in a story and set it into motion through what felt like a song. It showed that grief, happiness, love, and loss are are all emotions that can coexist so long as there is acceptance and appreciation for what IS. The slam poetry was phenomenal, but it was not the only lyrical aspect. The entire story flowed methodically like music—occasionally changing rhymes, but never reason.
I've never cried so intensely while reading a book—honestly, and for various reasons. Who knew I could feel so utterly heartbroken, enlightened, and peaceful at the same time without becoming conflicted.
Slammed was an extraordinary read that had POWER is in its simplicity. This was NOT a preachy book. Not in the least, and still, I felt that every piece of me had been thoroughly schooled by its wisdom. There was not a single message conveyed that was not backed up by a stunning example played out by the characters. It was as if the author said--I can tell you my idea of peace, love, and happiness, but I'd much rather show you...
Through poetry, and pain,
happiness and shame,
family ruins and pink balloons;
by acceptance of strife—
we're shown how to emphasize the LIFE in our lives.
...And for that, I thank you, Miss Hoover.

I read in between calls at work so if its busy I don't get to read much, if its slow I can knock out a chunk. I'll keep my status up to date. If its a talking book shoot me a message.

I am interested in this one too. I am not a huge fan of poetry but everyone seems to love this book so who knows...please keep me updated :)
Robin wrote: "Now you guys have my curiosity up about this one! Please comment further, I may decide to read!"Sure will, Robin! I kind of have a feel on what type of books u like so I will definitely let u know if I think u will like slammed. I'm only about 20 pages in so far. It's written in first person- present tense, which is new for me, but working. I will keep u posted!
Thanks, I just purchased it for Kindle! Will start reading this weekend before Gabriel's Rapture. Tried to read the 1st book of Shadowlands last night, and I really thought it was bad! Deleted it from my Kindle after reading 3 chapters!
Amy wrote: "Did you end reading this book? I finished it this morning? Did Tom end up reading it?"
I never finished bc I couldn't get it to open on my Nook. But I was really loving it. I have to finish. Yes, Tom read it and seemed to really enjoy it! Did you like???
I'm conflicted. Last week I read Easy and loved it. And I don't think this compares to it. But my friends love this books so I think I'll read it again and see if I feel differently.

I know a lot of people loved the Slammed series but maybe it just wasn't your thing. I liked the slam poetry element, a lot.

Too many awesome books to worry about how others felt about a book. 60% of the book was just okay so i can see how you might not have flipped over it. The part that took it over the top was more personal in nature. You should peek at Kris's review of
if you are looking for an awesome YA book. It is different and not really a romance it is more a book of friendship...just check out her review...haha
Haha Tom, you're too funny! I am officially selecting you a personal Goodreads theme song: 50 Cent's P.I.M.P. I can hear it now... ;)

Lucia wrote: "I cried my eyes out when reading this book, one of the most emotional books ever written."Lucia, I miss you! :) I'm preparing myself for the tears...I know they're coming. The writing is so casual and brilliant, I love it!
Yep, they are definitely coming. Some parts are so so sad, be prepared. But overall, it is amazingly beautiful story!!!
So the thing everyone wants to know...did you start listening to the Avett Brothers? Those guys should definitely put Colleen Hoover on their Christmas Card list. This is now one of my favorite songs...

Lol...I agree, Ian! Christmas card, fruit basket...something! I was actually quite a fan prior, but this book did have me youtube-ing every reference ;) Thanks for the link! Awesome song...
Point of Retreat might be a good one for a buddy read. I've had it on my Kindle since early this year and just haven't had a chance to read it.
Thanks, Soraya! I'm sure I'll love PoR, as well. I look forward to more from this author :)Ian, now's the time! ;) There's already a small crowd reading it. I plan on joining them now that I've finished Slammed...

I'm actually excited that I'll soon be learning the meaning behind the 'butterflying' term! Been waiting ;)
Glad you loved it!!Lake was my favorite she was hillarious! My favorite part was when she went to the school to talk to the principal after the costume fiasco and the kids asked her what the teacher wanted and she told them she just wanted to know where they got the costume material so she could be a hemorrhoid next year! HAHA! Priceless!
Great review!! I felt the same way after reading this awesome book! Cant wait to read Hopeless that she has coming out at the end of the month!! :D
Thank you Mel, Sare, and Heather! I'm really looking forward to Hopeless, too! :D Loving this author!!
