Grace has a bad case of OCD. She counts things, everything in fact, and it has made her, effectively, a recluse. How did she get this way? Her hero is Nikola Tesla. They share something. One day at the supermarket, short one banana at the checkout, she swipes one from the guy behind her on line to make a perfect 10, and thus begins her adventure.

This is a wonderful, charming novel. It will make you smile and occasionally laugh out loud. Jordan had written a character study that is both attractive and frightening. And the man in Grace’s life is a wonder. It is not exactly War and Peace, but it is an excellent, entertaining and moving small novel. You might pick up some nifty information about Nicola Tesla as well.

Linda Robinson Cool. I like Tesla. And OCD is interesting when it's somebody else's.

Melissa Price OCD, Phobias/agoraphobia, panic attacks.....at the absolute highest level one can suffer from these is one of the most painful things a human could possibly go through. Going through it since the early age of five Yeats old, now forty two, and it's every second of every single day even in your sleep the nightmares.....the paralyzing fear, time spent checking and re-checking, then checking again.....needing to go the the hospital knowing it's a critical matter, however the germaphobia and agoraphobia are far more terrifying than a life or death health situation......God, that's just the beginning of a life existing in pure, agonizing, lose your fight, hope, dreams, friends, family etc etc etc. An isolation wished upon nobody and somebody who hasn't experienced even a second, could not possibly imagine the daily every second battle this is. It is in its own way, a cancer that you cannot run from and 'never' shuts up. Sorry for all that....just hit a spot that is killing me, quite literally.

Will Byrnes These are indeed painful conditions to live with, particularly when they are extreme. Scott Stossel writes compellingly about his experiences with extreme phobias in My Age of Anxiety, a worthwhile read, particularly for people for whom anxiety represents much more than a manageable level of psychological discomfort.

Lela Sometimes I count but I don't swipe fruit to make the numbers right! Just a small touch of OCD. Very fortunate and I know it! I have friends whose lives are often miserable because of it. Horrible what our brains & our own chemicals can do to us! Having said all that, I still think your review has enticed me to read it! Great job, as per usual!

Will Byrnes Thanks, Lela

Karen Ng How could I refuse any info on Nikola Tesla? ;) Added to my TBR list. Talking about recluses, I think you'll enjoy An Unnecessary Woman.
