Re-read 10/23

Still, one of my absolutes faves from Lily. It’s such a comfort read and in all good conscience, I can’t keep re-reading without rounding up.

Despite their 15 year age gap, Jude & Asa are kindred spirits; kind, clever, quick witted, loyal, and both, unfortunately, plagued by their pasts. From the very beginning, their chemistry sizzles, and you just know they belong together. They hit it off immediately, and Asa agrees to take on, strapped for cash, Jude as his PA, in return for free boarding. However, Asa’s good opinion very quickly nosedives on learning Jude’s occupation (he has his reasons). As payback, Jude pretends to be an absolute himbo, messing with Asa’s life and fan mail - it’s so funny and cracks me up every-time. It doesn’t take Asa long to realise how special Jude is though and as much as I enjoy the antics, I love it when Jude can just be himself 🫠

I love their journey, but romance aside, Jude actually falls in love not once, but twice. I challenge anyone who doesn’t fall in love with Asa’s 5 yo son too. Billy, is THE most adorable fictional kid, I’ve EVER had the pleasure to read about. He is just wonderful. From their hilarious meet cute, you just know you’re onto a winner. I love their dynamic so damn much!

So, why not a full five stars? Well, Lily loves evil ex theatrics (or ‘exes’ as is the case here). First time round, it didn’t bother me, but after you’ve read a few of her books, it’s difficult not to notice this running theme and it’s not a trope I particularly enjoy. Don’t let that put you off though, as the evil exes don’t get much page time.

Expect lots of love and laughter, sexy times, highly satisfying Dylan & Gabe cameos, great secondary cast, fantastic banter, fur babies (some more welcome than others 😂), coastal retreats and a heartwarming HEA. 4.5 Stars ⭐️
