Steph Sinclair's Reviews > Easy
Easy (Contours of the Heart, #1)
by
Okay, let's get right down to business: Easy is one of the best books I've ever read. I finished it almost two weeks ago and I still think about the characters because I was on such an emotional roller coaster, fully immersed, while reading. It says something about a book that can do that do you.
Easy surprised me right from the start with a very troubling scene of Jacqueline being attacked, making my heart jump into my stomach. And I'll admit to being worried about how Webber would handle such a delicate topic. But I think she did it very well and touched on many of the myths that are attached to rape. But Easy showed not only how a victim feels after an attack, but how a family copes and how a community reacts. And if there is anything I've taken away from the story it's that I need to enroll in a women's self-defense class in the near future.
This book was filled with so many moments that just made me sigh inwardly or cheer on. The playful banter between Jacqueline and Lucas during their email exchanges was incredibly sweet. The scene where the sorority leader gave that speech on rape had me in tears. And the entire ending was just sheer perfection! But I will give a warning to some: There are a few disturbing scenes and if this is a trigger for you, it may be best to skip.
It's been a while since I've added a book to my all-time-favorites shelf. This book was so powerful, so amazing, so emotional.
When Jacqueline was attacked in the beginning I was like:

Then she had to endure being harassed by that asshat again and endure shame from the student body, I was like:

Then another girl is attacked and that fucktard RUINED her and people were concerned about his reputation, I was like:

At that point, I needed to take a break, because this book was tearing me up inside. Some of this happened:

Okay, okay. Maybe some of this too:

Then Lucas and Jacqueline get into a spat and I'm like, "WHY??????"
*SORROW*

THEN SHIT GETS REAL... AGAIN and I'm like:

By the end of the book, I'm in a glass case of emotions and I'm like:

So basically, what I'm trying to say: The highest of recommendations.

Looking forward to your review, I've been wanting to read this book for ages!
The beginning was so freaking scary, my heart was hammering in my throat and I couldn't breathe until Lucas saved her. And OMG, Lucas story is so scary and sad, his mom, damn it his mom.
I really loved this book.
Man, it was so amazing. I didn't expect the book to begin to strongly like that. And when the sorority president gave that speech on rape, I just fell to pieces. "That's rape ladies." MY EMOTIONS.

i kind of had the same emotions as those in ur gifs.. i soo hate buck.. he deserved what he got, but poor Mindi.. and everyone trying to get her to shut this thing up, i mean how could they do that.. i liked when the sorority president told her story, and when she snapped at mindi for being confused.. and when lucas learned that jackie knows about his mother and he just told her to go away .. yeah that hurt.. and when he cryed :( :( :( OMG .. i looved his last sentence.. "it's easy, incerdibly easy" AAHHHHHHHHHHHH

@Fred, Thank you!
@Kayla, LOVED it!
Great review!! I don't care for the YA genre, but this one is soooo far beyond that. It's just a great story, with great characters, and some great writing. Put me through the emotional ringer, too. I was laughing, swooning, and crying. The full range of possible emotions! I recommended it at any chance I get.
I havent read it but you just made me want to read it! Ugh your pre-review was so good I wanted to read it and cry with you. I'm so reading this book once I finish What A Boy Wants
I kept passing over this as not for me, and you're making me reconsider this! Damn you, Stephanie!! ;)

@Margaret, Jessie and Jenn, READ IT! You will not regret it.

Get on it woman!
Ok, I have the advice of you and multiple others and I am now halfway through this book. And so far, everyone was right <3
Jenn wrote: "Ok, I have the advice of you and multiple others and I am now halfway through this book. And so far, everyone was right <3"Yay! So glad you are liking it!
This book made it onto my all time favorites as well. I think it's the only book from the mature YA genre on the list. :)I'm glad you enjoyed it too!
@Pauline, it's actually not uncommon for victims to not want to report an attack for a lot of reasons, one being embarrassment. But I'm glad you're enjoying it! :)@Mithrendiel, it's the same for me too! It's just an awesome book!
Lia wrote: "I just bought this book, and your review makes me even more excited to read it :D"I hope you like it!
After reading it, I too felt like I should enroll in self-defense classes. It wouldn't hurt to know how to use your body as a weapon. Good review!
Alexandra wrote: "After reading it, I too felt like I should enroll in self-defense classes. It wouldn't hurt to know how to use your body as a weapon. Good review!"I agree! Thank you! :)
I am about to download this to my kindle... I love books that bring you into the story and take you out if real life. I hope I love it!
Wow, that was a lot of emotional trauma for me just reading your review. Am I going to need a therapist after reading this?! I've read one other book that sounds similar to this and I'm still shaken up. And that was months ago! But what's life without a little risk? Ahaha
Hey! Lucas' second match is on going. please vote for him. If he wins, we have a surprise from Tammara :) http://www.naalley.com/2013/07/match-...
This book was filled with so many moments that just made me sigh inwardly or cheer on.
Yes, I know exactly what you mean. There were so many ::::sigh::::: moments that I lost count. I just loved this book to pieces and Lucas/Landon was one of the yummiest heroes I've read. Great review.
