I've lowered my rating because, although I quite enjoyed this book while I was reading it, it was definitely lacking in certain things.

The fmc, olive, was insufferable and, like many female protagonists, she acts like a teenager. Her inner monologue was annoying and I just didn't find her to be hot? Which was a bummer, duh. I prefer fmcs who are a bit more feisty and have more character in them. I know we only had one sex scene but even then, Olive didn't really actively participate. I just wanted things like the girl initiating a kiss by grabbing his chin, dragging her nails down his back etc. Not much, but I just was very bored with this childish fmc. And I wouldn't have minded some hot-girl dirty talk too.

If you are looking for a fabulous book with a fabulous fmc, I'd strongly (strongly) recommend Act Your Age, Eve Brown. I know I shove it down everyone's throat, but I do so with purpose.

Adam was hot, to a degree. I liked his sulky and grumpy demeanor but I felt that, throughout the whole book, I was waiting for when he'd crack his tough-guy shell and actually be someone I could connect with emotionally, but I felt like he never did and it made him feel like a sort of empty character. I feel like the only way for me to put it into words is that I could never have Adam as a comfort character because I don't feel like I know him.

I would've complained about there not being dual pov in this book (which would've fleshed out his character more), but I read chapter 16 from his perspective and it was disgusting and cringey. Goodreads deleted both the book and the review multiple times and I'm too tired to do anything about it.

Regarding the PDA, I know the people who tend to dislike this book criticize it. Which is, frankly, understandable. It's not for everyone, but it is for me. I found those moment's to have fantastic sexual tension, which is what I want in a romance. So to me (TO ME), it was very hot and fun, I really couldn't care less if it was unrealistic. It was super well done, tropey and swoony and was likely my favourite aspect of the book!!

However, I despised the blackmail evil guy inclusion. Frankly (yes I know I say that word a lot), I don't want issues that women deal with every day to be inserted into what is supposed to be a book that brings me joy. So, that was annoying. Moreover, if you add that to the whole "olive being a liar and weakling that should honestly consider going extinct", I got...a tad bothered, per se.

Also, the only poc character being the fmc's best friend was...disappointing? Clearly just used to further the plot of the fmc. Do better.

And for the final point, the miscommunication trope. Need i say more? The miscommunication is not only a great inconvenience but also take's away from the reader enjoying more romance and hot moments between Adam and Olive, which is what we are here for. FURTHERMORE, the least the author could do if she makes us suffer a miscommunication trope, is provide us with hot sex, afterwards 😐 yet, here we ARE.

And yes (HAHA), this is also a complaint about there being only 1 sex scene that everyone seems to like but my guy couldn't even hit because she was oh, so tiny and small and microscopic 🥺. Like boy, if you don't thrust- anyway...

Also, ngl, I was hoping for something more freaky, riskay etc. Like I was hoping they'd fuck in a science lab or janitors closet or something tbh.

Nevertheless, I still really enjoyed this book and I'm excited for Love on the Brain so hopefully we will have more sex and no miscommunication.

But this book was fab for a debut so <3
