Crossroads is a welcome immersive, big novel, remarkably taut and involving for its size. But it strikes me as a collage of laughable characters and situations, none of which ring true. Will Matt Groening write the screenplays for the animated The Hildebrandts sitcom series? 3.5 stars

Elyse, I think an animated series might best capture the melodrama. If live actors and not animations, how about Adam Driver for Russ and Tom Cruise for Ambrose?

Kaloyana I agree, but why so many stars? :))

Two reasons: I’m an easy grader, and it held my attention.

Vicki Obrien I agree with 3 stars because it was well written but I didn't like much else about the book. With the exception of Judson, I didn't like or care about any of the characters. Hopefully the next installment will be better. I read that this us the first book of a series.

Think Sam Rockwell might be a good fit for a character? Russ or Ambrose?

Good review Dan!"

No, not Cruise. Ambrose is younger than Russ. Ambrose wouldn't fit at all. The fact Ambrose is younger is important, because Russ feels superior to him because of his age. That is one reason why he feels so deeply humiliated by Ambrose and hates him so much.

Katherine Well done. I enjoyed reading it but wanted to call bullshit many times. Thank he should’ve tried to get inside some of these minds. Ridiculous.

Thank you, Katherine: I agree with you.

Evil The story reminded me of the “Simpsons” episode where Reverend Lovejoy is jealous because his parishioners like the new young minister, Bodhi, better. At least Reverend Lovejoy retreated to his model trains and didn’t have an affair.

S Could make a good minseries but at 75% of the book is interior monologue
