Almost Heaven was a delightful, addictive read. Ian and Elizabeth were irresistible characters individually and together they had amazing chemistry. Ian is a self-made man and of course, a hot notorious rake, but he’s also sweet and tender. Ian (unlike many regency romance heroes) understood and owned his feelings for Elizabeth right away, which was so refreshing. The magnetism radiated off the page and the emotional connection + steam was some of the most convincing that I’ve read from McNaught.🔥
This book also had way more high stakes suspense than I recall in other McNaught books and I was on the edge of my seat both in how the story would unfold and how the couple would work through it.
My only issue was that the love story was so strong at about 60-75% that I had a hard time believing either of them would turn their backs and give up on it. And, Elizabeth was not stupid, yet she made some really stupid decisions.
p.s. These last 2 Sequels books have somewhat redeemed Judith McNaught for me after a few too many of her heroes (who I initially really liked) got super aggressive for-no-good-reason and never fully redeemed themselves.
