Obsidian (Lux, #1)
by
Second re-read: 16.05.2018
The book centers around our favorite alien, Daemon Black (17?) and the human, Katy ‘Kat’ ‘Kitten’ Swartz (17). Why I decided to re-read this one, I have no clue. But I can't find anything else to read, so why not read something you already have read. Sure, I'm terrified that I won't like it anymore - considering me and YA don't get alone - but, I had to read something... Overall, it was nice to be back in this world. The characters are still great, the story is still pretty interesting and the plot is nice. It's safe to say that this is still one of my most liked series (YA) and that I'll probably re-read it again some time in the future. One cannot go long with out Daemon...

About The Arum:
⇉ Lux, Daemon's planet was destroyed by the Arum. (“The Arum?” Then I got it. “Dark? Right? Are those the people that are out to like steal your abilities?”) They’re their enemies. Pretty much the only enemies of the Luxen besides humans, if they decided to stop being kosher with them being here. The Arum are like them—only opposite, coming from their sister planet. They destroyed their home. Dee's mom used to tell her a bedtime story that when the universe was formed it was filled with the purest light, shining so brightly it made the shadows envious. The Arum are the children of the shadows, jealous and determined to suffocate all light in the universe, not realizing for one to exist so must the other. Many Luxen feel that every time an Arum is killed, a light in the universe fades away. It’s the only thing she remember about her mother. ⇇

Other characters:
↦ Dee Black, Daemon's sister and becomes Katy's friend. Dawson Black, their brother. They are triplets, Dawson disappeared a year ago. Daemon and Dawson were/are completely identical, like the two Thompson boys.
↦ Kellie Swartz, Katy's mother.
↦ Matthew Garrison, (late twenties, early thirties), Katy's bio teacher and ‘friend’ of the Black's.
↦ Ash Thompson and her two brothers, Adam Thompson and Andrew Thompson. They are triplets and friends of the Black family. Dee is sort of dating Adam. All Luxen.
↦ Bethany Williams, She transferred to this school in the middle of her sophomore year, a little after The Black's and the Thompson's got here. She struck up a relationship with Dawson, and they both disappeared around the start of junior year.
↦ Lesa and Carissa, classmates of Katy's who befriends her. Humans. Simon Cutters, a human boy at school who seems to have a crush on Katy; asked her to the homecoming. Daemon acts a little jealous...

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout was INCREDIBLE! I loved ever single page in the book! I must admit, this book was probably one of my favorite book I've read! I definitely give this book 5 stars!
Katy is an awesome character! She's sweet, kind and have a strong will and heart. I adore her. She's been through a lot, loosing her father, the moving to West Virginia to start over with her mom. And ends up in even more danger when she meets her neighbors Dee and Daemon Black. Katy becomes really close to Dee, and Daemon hates it. Daemon is one sexy hot piece of an ass! He and Katy DON'T get along, though it's pretty obvious that they so got the hots for each other but refusing to admit it.. It was so frustrating to read and so exiting! Something happen all the time and I love the story! Daemon is powerful, overprotective brother and I'm in love! I couldn't stop reading this book. Once I started it, I just had to finish it... I can't wait to read book #2!! I hope it's just a great as this one! :D

“I’ve always found that the most beautiful people, truly beautiful inside and out, are the ones who are quietly unaware of their effect.” His eyes searched mine intently, and for a moment we stood there toe to toe. “The ones who throw their beauty around, waste what they have? Their beauty is only passing. It’s just a shell hiding nothing but shadows and emptiness.”
I did the most inappropriate thing possible. I laughed. “I’m sorry, but that was the most thoughtful thing I’ve ever heard you say. What alien ship took the Daemon I know away, and can I ask them to keep him?”
He scowled. “I was being honest.”

About The Arum:

Many Luxen feel that every time an Arum is killed, a light in the universe fades away. It’s the only thing she remember about her mother. ⇇
“Kat?”
Drawing in a deep breath, I faced him. “What?”
A smile parted his lips. “You do realize I love a challenge?”
I laughed under my breath and turned back to the front door, giving him a one-fingered salute. “So do I, Daemon. So do I.”

Other characters:
↦ Dee Black, Daemon's sister and becomes Katy's friend. Dawson Black, their brother. They are triplets, Dawson disappeared a year ago. Daemon and Dawson were/are completely identical, like the two Thompson boys.

Quickly, I turned back to Dee. She looked oblivious to it all, or maybe she was trying real hard to ignore it. Tension clotted the air. It was like an invisible line had been drawn somewhere and I’d skipped right over it. I could feel all of them, dozens of eyes, settling on me. All of their gazes filled with distrust and an emotion far, far worse.
Fear.

“Thanks,” I muttered and added under my breath, “Douchebag.”
He laughed, deep and throaty. “Now that’s not very ladylike, Kittycat.”
I whipped around. “Don’t ever call me that,” I snapped.
“It’s better than calling someone a douchebag, isn’t it?” He pushed out the door. “This has been a stimulating visit. I’ll cherish it for a long time to come.”
Okay. That was it. “You know, you’re right. How wrong of me to call you a douchebag. Because a douchebag is too nice of a word for you,” I said, smiling sweetly. “You’re a dickhead.”
“A dickhead?” he repeated. “How charming.”
I flipped him off.”

“Oh, yeah.” Carissa nodded. “They were googley-eyed in class on Friday. It was pretty steamy, the whole ‘I’m

“And this is why you don’t want me to be friends with Dee, because you were afraid that I’d find out the truth?”
“That, and you’re a human. Humans are weak. They bring us nothing but trouble.”

Amusement flickered in his emerald eyes. “Point taken.”

“For a moment, I pretended. Not that we weren't two different species, because I didn't see him that way, but that we actually liked each other.
And then he shifted and rolled. I was on my back, and he was still on the move. His face burrowed into the space between my neck and shoulder, nuzzling. Sweet baby Jesus...Warm breath danced over my skin, sending shivers down my body. His arm was heavy against my stomach, his leg between mine, pushing up and up. Scorched air fled my lungs.
Daemon murmured in a language I couldn't understand. Whatever it was, it sounded beautiful and soft. Magical. Unearthly.
I could've woken him up but for some reason I didn't. The thrill of him touching me was far stronger than anything else.
His hand was on the edge of the borrowed shirt, his long fingers on the strip of exposed flesh between the hem on the shirt and the band of the worn pajama bottoms. And his hand inched up under the shirt, across my stomach, where it dipped slightly. My pulse went into cardiac territory. The tips of his fingers brushed my ribs. His body moved, his knee pressed against me.
I gasped.
Daemon stilled. No one moved. The clock on the wall ticked.
And I cringed.”

'Be careful what you say next.' Daemon's voice was low but carried. 'Because what you don't know and what you can't possibly understand will get a bolt of light in your face.'
My eyes widened, as did pretty much everyone's in the room. Ash swallowed thickly and turned her cheek, letting her blonde hair cover her face.
'Daemon,' Mr Garrison said, stepping forward. 'Threatening one of your own for her? I didn't expect this from you.”

His stomach was ripped. Perfect. Totally touchable. Not the kind of stomach I expected on a seventeen-year-old boy, which is how old I suspected he was, but yeah, I wasn’t complaining. I also wasn’t talking. And I was staring.

“You’re kind of dirty, Kitten.”
I blinked. Deny. Deny. Deny. “What did you say?”
“Dirty,” he repeated, “You’re covered in dirt. What did you think I meant?”
“Nothing,” I said, wishing he’d back the hell up. Daemon being this close wasn’t exactly comforting. “I’m gardening. You get dirty when you do that.”
His lips twitched. “There are a lot more fun ways to get…dirty. Not that I’d ever show you. ” "
