This "Housekeeper" is a keeper.
What happens when a daughter hires the "perfect housekeeper" to care for her elderly parents?
In the beginning, the housekeeper sweeps the entire family off their feet.
And then things start spiraling out of control.
Although much of "The Housekeeper"'s storyline is predictable, the book is a fast-paced, character-driven, twisty, and engaging read.
Author Joy Fielding and I go waaay back. After reading "Kiss Mommy Goodbye" in the 1980s, I became an instant fan. My "oldie-but-goodie" Joy Fielding favorites were "The Other Woman" and "Life Penalty".
Unfortunately, Joy Fielding's recent releases were not in the same league as her earlier psychological thrillers.
But the good news is that Joy Fielding just upped her game with "The Housekeeper" and, hopefully, she'll continue to do with her upcoming releases.
I listened to the audiobook and the narration was good but not great.

At one point I had read all of her books… But it has been a while… Maybe it is time to give her another look! Great review!

Joy Fielding used to be one of my very, very favorite authors. This book is not in the same league as her earlier books but it's much, much, much better than her most recent books. It's an engaging read and I hope that you give it a try.
I have not read any of hers. Thanks for the tip about getting this one or one of her earlier novels. It does look like a wonderful audio selection!

Great review, Jayne! I've also been a Joy Fielding fan since the '80s, and I agree that her recent releases are not in the same league as her earlier books (See Jane Run is my favorite). But The Housekeeper reads more like those earlier novels, so let's hope her next book is just as good!
