bookshelves: absolute-trainwreck, disappointing, can-burn-in-hell-for-all-i-care, can-i-throw-this-person-off-a-cliff, someone-get-the-bleach
I read this simply because I wanted to know why everyone loved it. I normally do not read books like this and I hope I never find another book like this one because one is too much for this world.
I was warned ahead of time by mi manita that I wasn’t going to like it and it was full of smut.
Should I have read it then: probably not
Did I read it anyway: yes yes I did
Was she right: yup :/
Now if you liked this book than I suggest you turn around now or be prepared to be offended, I’m am going to give y’all the “naked truth” about my thoughts on this book so don’t be mad
Now where to start, I think I’m going to give you the very few things I liked—
~ for one Atlas was adorable and literally like the perfect man and the obvious choice for Lily
~ umm let’s see… I loved Alyssa, she was cute and funny and she actually told Lily some good advice despite Ryle being her brother Lily was her best friend
~ literally the only reason this book got two not so shiny stars from me was because it did show something that needs to be taught. otherwise it would have gotten one star or less.
~ I did find Marshall and Alyssa cute and they’re whole love story was so cute and funny
Now on to the possibly offensive part (this is probably gonna become a rant)
~ Lily honey, you met Ryle when he was having temper tantrum and trying to get high, so WhAt On EaRtH mAdE yUo ThInK tHaT hE wOuLd MaKe A gOoD hUsBaNd?!?!!??
~ the main characters, oh the characters were so painful to read about. Lily was extremely self centered and thought very highly of herself to the point where she came off as snobby to me. Ryle was an ass and disgusting and there really isn’t much more to say.
~ the writing style was bland and didn’t catch my eye in the least, it could have been so much better. I found myself editing and rewriting in my mind out of habit so I spared myself at times but it still could have been a lot better
~ I dOn’T wAnT tO rEaD 3 oR 4 cHaPtErS sTrAiGhT oF sMuT!!! IT’S DISGUSTING!! and I wish I didn’t understand half of what I read. (of course this also might be particularly because I’m ace and sex repulsed, but I can usually read smut with a straight face and this just grossed me out)
~ the plot was weak and the romance had no chemistry what so ever. we don’t even get to see any real bonding between the main couple, they’re literally just banging and fighting the whole book which made it extremely hard to even imagine that they were in any way in love.
~ it’s honestly disgusting that this is considered a romance book when the whole point is to bring light abuse and other need-to-know things. this is Lily’s story about finding herself and making the right the choice— it’s not! a love story between Lily and Ryle and it’s not a love story between Lily and Atlas! IT IS NOT A ROMANCE BOOK!
~ Ryle deserves his own rant but I’m honestly just annoyed and exhausted thinking about writing one so let’s just say that this went in my “can I throw this person off a cliff” folder because of him.
~ (view spoiler)
alright I’ll stop now— you know what I’m actually going to lower my rating because now that all that is down on… paper? I can see that two stars is too many

As your protective manita, I warn you to not read this, unless you really want to. I read it for the hype and uhh why- there are so many problems with this, the author, the conent and eww. Domestic violence is brought to light but there are better books than this. My review is a little more detailed. And by that, not much but I can explain to you more.

mmm yeah I’ve heard a few problematic things about this book but it’s like with ACOTAR, I want to read it to see what the hype is all about. I’ll defiantly buy it used just cuz but there isn’t a hardcover so I would have to get a paperback and then I would probably just read it then turn around and sell it again
True, I think you'll enjoy the process. Yeah, good idea. We have a hardback for the second book here but the first nope.
Oh! I can send you the many online editions- it's a real quick read, you'll have it done in a few hours.
