as much as i want to love this trilogy… i just can’t.
the world of caraval is so neat, but the writing was driving. me. up. a. wall. i was this close 👌🏻 to dnf’ing because of the imagery and how messy the story became.
let me give you some examples:
“dark green kerosene lamps illuminated pale mint-green glass tables, while velvet green settees cushioned people sucking on glowing cubes of green sugar, or sipping vials of vivid lime liquid.”
i get being descriptive, but good lord. we understand that literally everything is green. you don’t have to meet a word requirement for an essay, so please put the thesaurus away.
“he tasted like exquisite nightmares and stolen dreams, like the wings of fallen angels and bottles of fresh moonlight.”
girl… what? just say he tasted like toothpaste or something. this isn’t beautiful, descriptive writing… it’s literally nonsense.
the worst part is that these sentence structures show up MULTIPLE times per page... or paragraph. it's too much.
the only redeeming qualities of this book are the world and jacks. everything else made me suffer. the storyline & the dragna sisters werea bit of a mess. scarlett & tella are irritating and desperately need to work on their decision making skills.
this book tasted like predictability and dull expectations, like anticipation falling flat and a 2 star rating.
idk if i should even read Finale or just skip to OUABH at this point. (someone pls help)

this review is so perfect 😭🤣🤣 i agree omg this book was acc torture jacks was the only saving grace. tbh i acc enjoyed finale so you may as well? but i actually love scarjulian so thats why. if you’re not liking any of the characters i would just skip to ouabh atp lmao. but there are some interesting reveals the happen in finale

The word requirement for an eassay😭🤣 I hate when the writing is in a way the author is more ingrossed in the word count than the actual story. I definitely takes away from the entirety of the plot & characters. The second quotes sounds like me trying to describe something I hate for a research paper😭😭 NOT MULTIPLE TIMES PER CHAPTER😭 I rlly wanta meet jacks but I cannot if the writing will make me want to bash my head against the wall at every other page😅 maybe I’m better off completely skipping these🤣

@angelpompom she could have gotten the point across in a lot less words lol! i kept reading the crazy long sentences out loud to my husband and they sounded ridiculous. honestly i'm thinking i may just completely skip book three hahaha i'll find out what happens through OUABH. i am so sick of these books and i cannot get past it. 😅

I literally rant about these exact same things and more reasons why Garber’s writing was annoying to read in my reviews for both Legendary and Finale 💀 I’m scared to start OUABH because I’m worried her writing hasn’t improved from that mess

omg those quotes... i know this is excatly how ill feel when i force myself to pick these up. i just keep hearing that reading this trilogy first makes ouabh so much better, id say push through the last one, at least it will count toward your reading goal

@Zsh the writing just isn’t for me but i can see how others find it whimsical or fantastical. I just couldn’t get past it. honestly you may love it!! I didn’t particularly LOVE the first book, either, but mostly because of the same reasons as this one.
