DNF for me. Made it about halfway…I like this authors other books but this was BORING. I still don’t know what the story was??? Hi, I found out I can’t act and liked a cute crazy boy and then settled down with a non-crazy man and had 3 kids. Oh and since it’s Covid…( so over the Covid books) we are all talking and reminiscing so I’m going to tell my long boring story of how I met your dad. The end.

I thought I had no literary taste. Thank you! I couldn't understand the point of the story, so I gave up.
Spot on! I kept seeing these 5 star reviews and a few of my online book friends loved it but I found it boring as f*#k. After trying it and being distracted during reading at least 5 times, I DNFed it.
I guess you’d never have the insight and attention span to sit through ‘Our Town’, (an American masterpiece). 🤨
I completely agree. I made it to the 30% mark and it was just so boring. I usually don’t DNF but I have so many books I want to read it was not worth pushing through.
Maybe you should have finished it, and you might no have been left with so many questions. Just a thought.
@Lena if the author can’t figure out how to tell someone what the point of the story is half way through, it’s not me doing something wrong
You nailed it! This is the first book in a decade that I DNF…. I listed to the audiobook and was captivated by Meryl reading it at first but then kept waiting for the twist, a climax… something besides cherries and Tom Lake.
I’ve read and loved all of Patchett’s works; I forced myself to finish it out of deference to a great author, but this was a pile of nothing.
I'm about halfway through. And I'm listening to Meryl Streep do the voices on audible. Meryl Streep is a very good actress and I've been wondering if I'm enjoying this as a story, or from just enjoying listening to Meryl Streep act,,
This is on my book club list. Otherwise, I would have skimmed more of the too-perfect family dynamics. Watching Our Town before reading the book is helpful because of the constant references.

I listened to half the Audible version....couldn't stand all the cloying cuddling and self indulgence. The scene where they are driving to the cherry farm and Palace is singing lines from show tunes and we are all guessing what show it comes from and Duke is quoting lines and we have to guess what play they are from....I'd leap from the moving car. Deleted it.
