I’m torn by this one in that at times I found it so engrossing, though at other times I found it redundant, needlessly dense, and just a general mess. Getting down to the nitty-gritty of gay life (and just life in general) under Castro’s regime was great to read about. That being said, those interesting moments are often buried underneath a lot of minutiae. It felt like the author definitely took the kitchen sink approach to this, and I can’t help but feel that this could have been way punchier and engaging had he just edited things down. 2.5 rounded up I guess.
Also, this memoir definitely isn’t for the faint of heart. I had to set it down a few times because of how wild/gross/messed up things got.
Also also, get ready to read about sex. Sex all the time, sex everywhere and all at once. Sex.

Sometimes, it's really great, especially when he's talking about living under Castro's regime. But then other times I'm like, "Okay, you had A LOT of gay sex, I get it. A LOT." I think it could have been shortened some. That being said, I'm having a good time overall. It's definitely been shocking!
