This collection of short stories, Grace Paley's first, includes one of my favorites, "The Loudest Voice" (which I bet would be a hoot to hear performed live) plus two others which I like very much, "Goodbye and Good Luck" and "the Contest". I didn't connect with the other stories here in the same way, so my rating is for the first three mentioned.
edit 12/25 - I have a connection with a local library's series of short stories read aloud by local readers. In December, I had the pleasure of hearing a friend, Banna Rubinow, read "The Loudest voice". She read it wonderfully and it was great to hear the story read aloud.

You've reminded me of a writer I never see mentioned anymore, Paul, yet I thought her short stories were amazing when I first read them years ago. They made me feel I was living in the neighborhoods she described and that I'd gotten to know all those people personally.

I own her collected stories, a volume I read pre-Goodreads, and now I want to find those three stories you've mentioned and reread them. Only the second title sounds familiar. Thank you, Paul.

And if Ms. Paley were still living, I'm sure she'd greatly appreciate that comment.
