You know, I think I've read this one before. It was about this girl from one of 12 districts who was sent to represent her people in a battle to see which was the best. I think it was called... I can't remember it. Is this that book? I think her name was Katnip. Or Cutlass.

Nevermind. Probably making it up. But I swear, it just sounds so familiar!

Oh, by the way James Frey, purveyor of a "fiction factory" which underpaid authors for their hardwork, a man who lied to my queen Oprah, a man who has made a career on being a liar and a bully?

I'm not supporting this book, and not just because someone ripped off the Hunger Games and threw millions of dollars at him for it.

BookChic Club I'm honestly surprised that he's still in business. I love HarperCollins, but this makes me not love them as much.

Meg Not only is he in business, he got $2 million for the book deal + $2 million for the film rights.

HC, whyyyyyy.

message 3: by BookChic (new)

BookChic Club It boggles the mind, and they keep going into business with him despite his consistently shady past!!!

message 4: by Meg (new) - added it

Meg Because somehow, someway, he still makes them a lot of money.

BookChic Club Which seems odd since I thought I Am Number Four wasn't doing well at all (and the movie didn't either) since I barely hear anything about it. Maybe since it's not something I look out for, it doesn't crop up.

Jennifer I agree with all of that. But his cardinal sin is being a terrible terrible writer. I would forgive a lot if his writing was fantastic. But it is just not redeemable.

Hannah People need to stop being such haters. The Hunger Games was a rip-off (a fabulous one) of Battle Royale; it seems only fair that someone can bounce ideas off of her ideas which weren't even original ideas. If we didn't have rip-offs, we wouldn't have any books, especially in the romance genre. James Frey might have a shady past, but so does Bill Gates . . . and my guess is the majority of you still use Microsoft.

As a matter of fact, I use Windows for the sole fact Mac sucks and I can't for the life of me understand Linux. I don't get why people think Steve Jobs was such a god when by all accounts he was a raging asshole, just like James Frey here, a man who has thrown many a young writer under the bus in order to create a line of rip offs. And yes, maybe The Hunger Games was a rip off, but at least it was well done. Having read a few chapters of Endgame, can't say Frey and his co-writer du jour managed that.

Ceilidh The Hunger Games was actually a take on the minotaur story from Greek mythology. Yes, it borrows tropes, it's inspired by old material, but it's a clear difference from being a rip-off like Frey. Battle Royale's themes are totally different too - it's more concerned with growing changes to attitudes in Japanese society towards the young, while The Hunger Games takes on the increasing acidity of reality TV culture.

KL (Cat) Wait, the minotaur story? Damn, I didn't catch that. Is Katniss Ariadne or Theseus?

Kimi Tursi I agree with the parts about Frey being... Well, and ASSHOLE, but honestly I liked the book. It may share some similarities from The Hunger Games, but the writing styles are VERY different and so is the plot and such. I also liked his other series The Lorien Legacies, and he has great cliff hangers. So as long as he writes me some good books to read, I will look past his shitty attitude. You should all do the same.

Ian Just because you might have a personal gripe with the author or the publisher or whatever does not mean that the book is bad. I know the author isn't a great guy, but personally I love the book. It is slightly similar to THG, I admit, but it is not nearly as exciting. The characters have been developed much better in my opinion and the plot is similar yet very distinct from books such as THG or Maze Runner. At the end of the day, books like this are written for entertainment, and this is a promising series that should appeal to fans of this genre. Just don't make it into a movie and ruin it.

Ariel Lynn One of the earlier comments had stated that if we didn't have rip offs then there wouldn't be any books. This person had a point. Writers get inspiration from other writers. This is why Stephen King once said that there are two things a writer must do: write and read. Without reading you cannot write, from reading others' work you get inspiration. And, though, I do not like what this author stands for, you cannot sit there and say that Endgame: The Calling is a "rip-off" when practically all books are.

Catherine H Endgame: the calling is a million times better than the hunger games. The hunger games is a wimpy thing next to endgame. Don't get me wrong; the hunger games is great, but this is completely different. It's a puzzle, a mystery, and it involves the humanity of the world. Don't hate on it if u chant even read it.

Don't bother trolling people with no interest in the book or the author.

Also, don't troll people if you can't even spell, Catherine.

Melanie How hilarious that you used J. Lawrence in the gif for your review!

Isabelle It really, reallyyyyyy is so different from The Hunger Games. Throughout the whole book I've never compared the two.

David This website is a platform for readers to rate and review books. This isn't a review, it's venting, and whatever points or thoughts you have about the author and the publishing company, they don't belong here.
You have some valid points - less than eloquently put - but you should be raising them elsewhere.
Write a proper review and I'd listen to what you have to say.

H.K. Rainey Me neither. Nothing like the Hunger Games. Totally different series. Better, too. Much better.

Jireh perfect gif XD

Kirsten Erickson This series was way different than the Hunger Games. Did you even read it?? I actually think its way better than HG too.

Kammera I'm just starting this book and loving it so far! It seems more edgy than Hunger Games. We shall see. Page 64 right now. And why all the snotty, snarky comments?

Hunter R Cillian is a very bitter old lady living alone with her cats

Hunter R meow meow crazy lady

Hunter R You're probably better off using midol instead of buying more cats

Mike The Hunger games is a derivative rip-off of numerous movies and books. I'm not defending James Frey here, just don't tell me that the Hunger Games was anything new.
To Ceilidh "The Hunger Games takes on the increasing acidity of reality TV culture." All right. Then it's a rip-off of Stephen King "The Running man."
