Although it may sound strange, when it comes to writing, the voice inside my head is that of a teenage boy. I'm sure my own sons are an influence, but one of my female friends has always said I'm a guy inside because of my interests and the way I think - I loathe shopping (unless it's a book store or electronics), 'chick flicks' generally bore me and I prefer 'guy' movies, and I've always told my husband if he ever felt the urge to get me flowers, make it a Best Buy gift card instead. While writing Sarah, Cain and Finn's voices came much easier to me than Lindsey or even Sarah. My next book involves teenage twin brothers, so I suspect my MCs will always be male.(less)

Eby is almost as cool as the cat he was based on - but not quite. Cain and Finn really came to life for me after I interviewed them and discovered things I didn't know. I always knew they had a strong bond, but not how it had developed exactly. Cain was usually more quiet and awkward, while Finn could be thrown into almost any situation and come out on top - and the things that fell out of his mouth were surprising and hilarious at times. But as the story progressed, I thought Cain developed into a more confident person because of what he experienced. The conversations between the two of them played out in my head effortlessly and I couldn't type the words fast enough. They just took on a life of their own.(less)

Thanksgiving, Steeler Game, and #AmWatching

If you celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you had a peaceful weekend (which might have been impossible if you braved the shopping crowds) spent with loved ones. We traveled to WV and celebrated our Thanksgiving on Friday with extended family, some we hadn’t seen in over a year. I mentioned last week we’re fried turkey fans, and Son #1 has assisted Mike and my dad several times in the prep and cooking.

I went into this sequel thinking it was a duology, but then learned it's book two of a trilogy. I admit to being somewhat leery, but make no mistake - it never crosses into the waters of middle book syndrome. Doesn't even come close.
