Carrie King was born in the tiny Hamlet of Sharpenhoe in Bedfordshire, England, which sits beneath a small hill smothered in trees, known as The Clappers, nestled on the edge of the Chilterns. To any Reader of The Life in the Wood with Joni-Pip that might sound a tad familiar!

She was the seventh of eight children, placed between her youngest brother, David and her youngest but older sister, Sylvia. When she was eight, her family moved to another tiny Hamlet in Bedfordshire called Bidwell. She so missed the woods and the hills.

Carrie was educated in Dunstable, Bedfordshire and Paris, France. English, Art and French were her favourite subjects but she decided to become a doctor! However, this didn’t happen, as she fell in love and was marri

Believe me, I rarely go in Pubs but my sister-in-law called me boring and invited me to tag along with her and her husband to the only Pub in the Village called, 'The Sun'. I went up to the bar to order some drinks (yes, I paid), when a guy said to me, 'You're Carrie King, aren't you? I loved reading Joni-Pip. Could you please set your next Joni-Pip Adventure in Bletchley Park?'

I was non-plussed as I had no idea who was talking to me. I just smiled politely as he continued. 'As Joni-Pip is set in WW2, I think it would be great to have a kid's adventure there.'

I thanked him for his interest and said I was pleased he enjoyed Joni-Pip but I was already over a hundred pages into BOOK TWO of The Circles Trilogy, Life by the Sea with Joni-Pip.'

The guy was persistent and asked if I would like to visit Bletchley Park and he would show me round.

If any of you don't know anything about Bletchley Park, I will briefly make mention of its Historic place in WW2. It is known as 'Home of the Code Breakers'. It is placed equidistant from Oxford and Cambridge Universities. GCHQ (The Government Communications Headquarters: a British intelligence and security agency), selected and invited men and women from these universities (and other hand-picked brainy candidates), to come and work at Bletchley Park, decyphering messages sent from the German and Japanese High Command. The incredible work done at Bletchley Park is said to have shortened the war by 2 years!

I accepted the invitation from the guy at the bar and was duly shown around this remarkable place. I was hooked, even as I was shown around my mind was imagining Joni-Pip here. I went back many times for research and finally agreed to postpone the writing of BOOK TWO, moving it to BOOK THREE and commenced writing the new BOOK TWO, which I called, 'Joni-Pip and the Bletchley Park Project'.

By the way, the guy at the bar? He was the then Managing Director of Bletchley Park, Simon Greenish! (less)

Long Time no see or hear!

Well, hello and greetings to all of you from London!

Sorry all of you, I hope I have 'approved' of you all Read more of this blog post »
