So far, this seems oddly Dickensian, and I'm not wholly liking that. It's much more conventional, and suffers in comparison to Ellison's Invisible Man, at least to me. I realize the outcome will not be Dickensian, and maybe this is a mischaracterization. In some ways, Wright actually presents a more complex conundrum, since his protagonist is unsympathetic.
