Monetization

Type Notes
Free-to-play Game is free-to-play with microtransactions in the form of currency purchases.
Subscription Players can purchase a subscription called the Express Supply Pass, which grants 300 Oneiric Shards upon purchase, and also gives 90 Stellar Jade every day the player logs in. The Pass can be purchased multiple times, each time granting 300 Oneiric Shards and extending the duration of the subscription by 30 days up to 180 days.

Microtransactions

Type Notes
Currency Real money is used to purchase Oneiric Shards, which can be converted to Stellar Jade at a 1-to-1 rate or used to purchase item bundles in the in-game shop. Stellar Jade are used to purchase Star Rail Passes, which are then used to purchase gacha rolls, which is the only way to obtain the vast majority of characters in the game.
Free-to-grind Players can earn Stellar Jade through completing daily quests, obtaining achievements, and opening chests found throughout the world, among other methods. Players also directly earn Star Rail Passes through ascending characters and grinding the free battle pass.
Loot box There are two main types of Warps: the permanent Standard Warp and limited-time Event Warps for Characters and Light Cones.
Time-limited Limited-time Event Warps are split into two warps, one for characters and one for light cones. As the name implies, they are only available for a limited time. Event Warps require Star Rail Special Passes instead of Star Rail Passes.

High frame rate

Increase FPS limit[4]
  1. Open the Registry Editor
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cognosphere\Star Rail
  3. Find the binary value named GraphicsSettings_Model_h2986158309 and right click on it. Select "Modify..."
  4. In the binary value editor, look on the right side of the screen for a section saying "FPS":60. Replace 60 with 120. Click on OK to save your changes.

Notes

If the binary value doesn't appear in the Registry, you may have to first change any Graphics setting, so that "Graphics Quality" says "Custom".
As of v1.5, the FPS cap can only be set to 30, 60, or 120. Any other value will cause it to reset to the default of 60 upon launching the game.
Since v2.1, using this method no longer breaks Graphics Settings menu. It will display FPS option as being set to 30 FPS, but in fact will run the game at 120 FPS. Changing any other Graphics options except FPS while in-game will NOT reset the FPS down to 60 or lower.[5]
Uncap FPS[6]
  1. Enable Fast V-Sync on HSR's page of Nvidia Panel Control.
  2. Open in-game Graphics settings.
  3. Enable V-Sync option.
  4. Close settings, and profit.

Notes

This behavior was observed in v1.6 update, and still persists as of the v3.3 update. There were no mentions of it in the official change logs, and thus it is unknown if this was an intended behavior.
In order to work, the selected refresh rate must be a multiple of the frame rate set in the game (e.g. 180 Hz with 60 fps lock).

At least since version 1.6, I can verify that hotplugging a Controller while the game is running will have it be properly detected and usable immediately.

Simultaneous camera movements with KB/M and Controller used to cause massive stutter. At least since version 1.6, I can verify that this is no longer the case.

Allegedly the game still has a stray in-game check which prevents it from running with Wine, unlike Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero.
