Under Defeat is a top-down view shooter game originally developed and published by G.rev in 2005. Taking place in an alternate history World War II, players assume the role of the German-speaking "Empire" fighting against the English-speaking "Union".
Originally developed for the NAOMI arcade system in 2005 and released for Sega Dreamcast in 2006, a port for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 was later released in 2012 titled Under Defeat HD, with new features and improvements, including New Order Mode, which fills the game to a full a widescreen display and rebalances around it, and downloadable content for additional helicopter units to play as. This version was re-released in arcades as Under Defeat HD+ in 2013 with additional content, including a New Order Mode+ which rearranges New Order Mode further and another new helicopter unit. The HD+ additions were later made available as a free update for the console versions in Japan only.[2]
In 2024, City Connection licensed the title from G.rev with plans to release it for contemporary consoles and PC.[3] This version was developed in conjunction with Zerodiv's then internal TAKE×0FF[Note 1] team, which previously handled the modern ports of Deathsmiles I・II and Akai Katana Shin.[4] It was released for consoles in Japan on December 5, 2024, followed by an overseas release alongside the Windows version globally on February 6, 2025. The 2024 version is a native port of Under Defeat HD which includes all content, including the previously Japan exclusive feature update, and an additional set of new music called "Boosted" provided by SuperSweep, the sound company that produced the previous versions' music.[4]
The store page erroneously claims that a controller is required to play; keyboards are supported as with City Connection's aforementioned ports.
