Drillling Center Arena Model: Experiment # 1

The document describes an experiment using Arena simulation software to model a drilling process. The objective is to introduce basic Arena modules. A drilling machine processes parts that arrive randomly following an exponential distribution. The process time for each part follows a triangular distribution. The model is run for 480 minutes per day over multiple replications. The student creates the model using Create, Process, and Dispose modules and extracts data on average waiting time and throughput from the model.

Objective: To introduce basic process arena modules

Apparatus:
1. Laptop/computer
2. ARENA software

Procedure:
Assume that parts arrive at a drilling center where a drilling machine process parts. Create a model
in ARENA with the following data:

Inter - arrival time Process time Run length Base time units
Random: Exp (5) Triangular (1, 3, 6) 480 minutes of 24 Minutes
minutes minutes hours per day

1. CREATE Parts Arrival

2. Drag Create module in the arena window and enter time between arrival

3. Enter the PROCESS MACHINING details

4. Drag Process module in the arena window and add resource and enter value of
process time.
5. Drag the DISPOSE Module: to Dispose the Parts
6. In run setup project parameter add the value of Replication length, hours per day,
and Number of replications.

7. Complete the model and fill the following table
