Stochastic Optimization of Microgrids With Hybrid Energy Storage Systems For Grid Flexibility Services Considering Energy Forecast Uncertainties

This paper proposes a stochastic optimization approach for microgrid operation with hybrid energy storage systems to provide flexibility services to the main grid while considering uncertainties from renewable energy forecasts. The approach jointly optimizes the real-time dispatch of distributed energy resources and the charging/discharging of battery energy storage to minimize microgrid operation costs and the deviation from day-ahead schedules submitted to the grid operator. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in mitigating the impacts of forecast errors on microgrid and grid operations.
