Volume

This document provides information about finding the volume of a prism. It includes examples of prisms and cubes. Students participate in an activity where they fill a rectangular container with small cubes to find its volume. The document explains that volume is the amount of space inside a prism or object, measured in cubic units, and gives the formula for finding the volume of a rectangular prism: Volume = Length x Width x Height. Students work in groups on volume problems and make their own rectangular prism models.

cubes

Do you know that the number of small cubes making up

the Rubik’s cube is its volume.
VOLUME – is the amount of space inside
the prism or objects.
- it is measured in cubic units,
it tells you how many cubes of
a given size it takes to fill the
prism.
Activity 1
Fill the container with the small cubes until its upper portion.

Count the number of cubes.

Count the cubes with reference to the length.

Count the cubes with reference to the width and the height.

How many small cubes did you put inside the rectangular
container?
If we haven’t counted the total number of cubes placed in
this container, can we still find its total cubes?

When we get the total number of cubes that the

container has, what have we looked for?
By just using the dimensions, the length, width, and
height, can we get the volume of the rectangular prism?

What is the formula to find the volume of a rectangular

prism? What unit of measurement will you use?
