Hidden fees
Hidden fees, don't believe their pricing on their website. Function Health charges $613 for their health check in New York. It's $365 plus an additional $248 billed at the lab. I didn't realize this until I got to the lab and they told me that I would have to pay the additional amount. The ridiculous thing is they can't provide any service to you at all without the additional fee. So of course I emailed them to ask for a refund and they still haven't got back to me. It's been almost one week and I am so angry and disappointed.

Function Health is misleading in many…
Function Health is misleading in many ways. For your second blood test you only get 25% of the bio markers that were in the first test. If you want trend analysis, you need to buy more. That is not clear in their advertising. Also, you never engage w Dr, including notes and summary. All of it is an AI language model, Disappointing

Good prices, waiting to see how they grow as a company
Good price for the tests and attractive interface. I have generally been frustrated about some of their policies like taking away the ability to have lab results uploaded to My Quest as well as Function which limits our access and what we are able to control about our data as Quest supports API functionality, though Function does not. There may be security concerns as Function claims, though with both Quest and Function being HIPAA, I don't really see it. All they can really say is having our results available in more than one place is less security, but many of us want the ability to use the Quest API to easily sync our results with other systems. Maybe that is less secure, but it is done by our own choice and hopefully we are choosing secure systems. We download our PDF's and share them wherever we want so all Function is doing is making it harder to use our data outside of their system. Almost every blood testing organization allows for API syncing, so function is an outlier on this decision though they are new and still developing. I want to like function, though I wish they would allow us to continue to get our data in My Quest while they continue to develop their product. It took me months of messaging them about this to finally get an answer that didn't feel like I was just being brushed off. I appreciate that I finally got a better answer, but wish it hadn't required so many messages to get a better answer.
"Thank you for sharing your perspective so candidly. I hear your frustration, and I want to acknowledge how strongly you feel about having control over your own health data.
You’re absolutely right that both Quest and Function operate under HIPAA regulations, and your feedback about data access, flexibility, and trust is valid. Our current approach isn’t intended to limit your autonomy or discourage the use of external tools, but rather reflects how our platform is structured today around data security, compliance, and consistency of results delivery. That said, we understand how this can feel restrictive, and we recognize that ease of access is an important part of the member experience.
While you can download and use your results PDFs as you choose, I understand your point that this may not feel like the most seamless or empowering option. Feedback like yours is important, and we do share concerns like this internally with the teams responsible for platform decisions and future improvements.
We genuinely appreciate you taking the time to explain how this impacts your trust and willingness to continue with Function. If you’re open to it, I’m happy to pass your feedback along so it’s heard by the appropriate team."

Figure out lab locations before signing up - you won’t be refunded if they aren’t close!!!
Function health was not up front about lab locations. I did not find out until after signing up that the closest lab locations was over 90 miles from my house. They would not give me a full refund even though I did not receive any services from them despite a request for refund being submitted only a couple of weeks after signing up. Horrible customer service and transparency.
Try to understand lab locations before signing up so you don’t get ripped off as well.

Good Product, Bad Customer Service
I signed up with Function in January 2025. The product from them was pretty good. Sure, its a little pricy and the doctor notes were underwhelming. However, the app is very user friendly, and they display your data in a way that makes it easy to find, read and understand. Booking your lab visits is convenient (all through the app) and very forgiving of last minute cancellations and re bookings. I was able to get some add on testing that proved to be beneficial to my every day life and I was most appreciative of the product they provided. I recommended it for others.
My favor for them ended when 2025 did. I only intended on using their service for one year (as I cannot afford to use them every year) but I looked forward to going back eventually when the time was right for me. In mid January I realized I was charged $365 by Function on Dec 31st 2025 and quickly found out it was a "recurring charge". Now that may have been something I skimmed over when I was signing up but I quickly used their AI chat box to request a refund and it easily obliged and told me to wait a few business days for the refund. A few days come and go and I get a refund for $233.35, a partial refund. I message Mr. Ai chat bot that I was expecting a full refund. Since idk.. I'm not using their service this year but unfortunately Mr. Ai informed me that I needed to cancel my membership within 48 hours of being billed. So, I email a human about my problem, and the man was nice, professional and responded 1-2 times a day. That is where I was informed that I was a "member" and this is an annual charge...He claimed function sent an email 2 weeks prior, alerting me of the upcoming charge. I have checked my email several times and I cannot find that email. I was asking questions like "when did I become a member?" "How do I cancel my membership? Did I sign any contract? Will I currently be billed next year?" Why are you keeping $130?". I couldn't find any of this information on their app because it is not displayed. Disappointing to find this all out in the 11th hour to say the least. I was told their 48-hour cancellation policy is black and white so no refund for me, they just get to keep the remaining $130 for funzies because I caught the charge to my credit card 3 weeks later instead of two.
My credit card company is handling the issue now, so the outcome remains to be seen. Overall, I find it really rich that a company that designed a great user-friendly convenient app was unable to clearly display any profile settings, membership status and financial records. Poor communication is one thing but to then not honor my request for a refund is disappointing when I didn't even purchase/receive anything from them I'm sure they make a lot of money off unassuming customers like myself. Good product, bad communication and bad customer service.

I was a curious about my biomarkers as…
I was a curious about my biomarkers as I age. More importantly, I was curious about what to do to correct any levels that suggested a problem. Function Health provides two blood draws a year. The first is about 10 vials of blood or so and they provide all sorts of instructions about how to prepare, what to stop, what to drink in advance, etc. The results are returned in an easy to read, understandable format a few weeks later. Three to four months after the initial draw, they remind you to schedule a second blood draws, about half as many vials and they follow-up tests of key markers. Their website and materials do a great job of laying out exactly what they are going to do, and then they execute it and send a report, which I gave to my physician. The only thing I didn’t like was when scheduling the second visit the system makes you select or decline about 40 additional tests before you can schedule. That was annoying.

Good tests, OK summary
The number of tests for the price does make it worth it. The summery statement is vague and not particularly helpful. But knowing which biomarkers where out of range gave me enough information about where I need to put my effort to improve.

Tragic customer service leads to outrage
They responded: added a star for effort and going to try to work with them.
Original: Gave a membership to my wife as gift. We are unable to activate the membership for her. You can not call, only email to which you receive form letters. I am not eligible for a refund. The AI chat is useless as with most. Absolutely horrible customer service, appalling really. Super frustrating and so nice to think they have ruined a nice gift for which she was excited to use. Next stop, BBB and after that the State Attorney General. This poor service rivals that of the cable companies.

Terrible customer service.
None of the tech works to book in ny. Customer service is beyond rude and unhelpful. I had no idea which labs to pick for my mid year and they don't show you the previous values. Terrible customer service.

Bad Customer Support
The testing and results are good. The support and customer service are terrible. For example if you gifted a subscription then after 1 year that person receives a mail notification that it is set to renew. You the gifter can’t cancel. You can’t talk to a person. They suck.

DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY
DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY - My lab results were hemolyzed. No one reached out to tell me this for 4 weeks; after I followed up every week requesting my results. First they told me they lost my lab tubes. Customer service came back 5 days later to report the labs were hemolyzed then. Refusing to provide a refund. STAY AWAY

FSA eligibility was advertised but I…
FSA eligibility was advertised but I did not get reimbursed - this was not an eligible expense according to my Trinet HR admin. So I did not use the membership and I requested a refund as soon as I found out that it was ineligible. Despite repeated requests in plain English in accordance with CA consumer protections, I never received one. Now it is renewing without my consent. They have stolen nearly $1000 from me. I need a refund for this year and last year's charges.
They make canceling extremely difficult.

This is my second year with Function…
This is my second year with Function Health. Last year I went to get my lab draws and the Quest did NOT have my paperwork. The Greensboro lab tech was gracious enough to let me get in contact with Function and have paperwork sent and draw my labs as quickly as the paperwork came through. Today at the High Point location I went for my scheduled draw and again NO paperwork. At this location I was told I would have to reschedule when I had the paperwork or if I could get it wait on standby for my draw. I quickly got my paperwork from Function but it was quite obvious I was NOT going to be getting a lab draw any time soon as there were constantly arriving new patients who were taken as I sat and waited for an additional 45 minutes. I had driven an hour one way / 2 hour round trip. I had to schedule school drop off since my appointment was early. I had to miss 2 hours of work. None of this mattered. Yes, I got a “We’re sorry” from Function Health but sorry doesn’t fix the problem. There was only just “you’ll need to reschedule.” That means 4 hours total drive time. 4 hours missed work. Another day I’ll have to schedule child drop off for school. “I’m sorry” just is not good enough. The Quest Lab tech was absolutely no help and in my opinion rude. I know big companies do not care if they lose clients. They have plenty. What is one person. Just an I’m sorry I suppose. I write this to make you aware of their scheduling issues and complete lack of support if there is an issue. But you will get an I’m sorry.

Dishonest in several ways - run away
Everything is with AI. There are so many errors. They charge hundreds of dollars extra for NY and NJ tests. They have a glitch on the website where if you do an add on they make you go on two separate appointments. Now they are reneging on the 2 tests that were promoted. That is right. They now say 'only one time getting bloodwork' - as if it is a perk, but the high price was always justified by the double test. I am entangled with them now and it is a nightmare. Use any other service unless you want to join me in this ai mismanaged mess.

Great cost and comprehensiveness, a bit hard for those who have to travel
Great service in terms of cost and comprehensiveness of the blood panel. There was a bit of confusion around my test booking at Quest labs but the Function team helped sort it out.
It is inconvenient to have to travel two hours each way to get my bloodwork done on two separate days, but it's manageable. However, I wish there were a standard way to set up tests for those of us who do have to travel so that only one day's tests have to be fasted (i.e., so that one can travel to the testing lab late one afternoon, do the non-fasted tests, stay overnight near the testing facility, and then the next morning do the fasted tests and travel home). I had to arrange this as a special thing and I think that was what led to the confusion about my booking at the lab.

Buyers beware
Buyers beware! It is impossible to cancel your Function Health membership. I’ve been trying to cancel mine for weeks, and they are still going auto renew. Function Health and Mark Hyman are like a bad boyfriend who won’t let you break up with them. It’s pathetic.

Splitting labs into Two Visits – Fasting Is Not Fun
Splitting labs into two separate visits is unnecessarily inconvenient. It requires fasting twice and taking time off work twice — a major frustration that could easily be avoided by consolidating testing into a single visit.
You’re also not told you’ll need two visits until after you pay. Function always requires two visits.
Another pain point: downloading results. There’s no simple way to export a consolidated report. Each result has to be downloaded individually from Quest and then manually merged into a single PDF. That’s time-consuming and unreasonable for a service positioned as premium and physician-friendly.
That said, the website functions okay and lab turnaround was fast (labs drawn Friday, results posted Monday in the Function portal). The biggest downside beyond logistics is support — if the AI can’t answer your question, there’s no clear path to a real person. Human support is essentially nonexistent.
This was the reply from Function Health: "We’re sorry to hear this and have reached out via Trustpilot to gather the necessary contact details to locate your account. Please reply when you can — we’d like to help make things right."
Note that the only way to 'reply' is to edit my review. I've just edited my review. I'm frustrated that I cannot download a copy of my labs. I've emailed Function Health requesting a copy. Now it's wait and see....

Healthcare service? More like Mexican timeshare presentation
This is not real healthcare service. It's some super shady test selling service.
1. Using them feels like sitting through Mexican timeshare presentation. I was trying to schedule my tests and was bombarded with ridiculously expensive upsale questions, which are impossible to skip.
2. There are no refunds even if you did not use the service at all.
3. They immediately enroll you into auto-renewable membership which can't be canceled without losing access to the service you already paid for.
UPDATE: The response to false. They are pretending to not understand what I'm asking.
