Firstly — thank you. Buying your 9th Chartwell hutch genuinely means a lot to us 😊 That kind of loyalty doesn’t go unnoticed.

I also really appreciate the constructive feedback.

You’re absolutely right that we supply the correct number of screws required for structural assembly, but many experienced customers (especially those building multiple units like yourself) do choose to add a few extra fixings for additional rigidity. That’s never a bad thing — particularly if the hutch is being moved occasionally or used in a higher-wear setting.

Your point about adding an additional floor strap is also noted. We design them to perform as supplied, but reinforcement for extra longevity is always a sensible approach if you want belt-and-braces strength.

I’ll pass your comments on to our workshop team as well — feedback from repeat customers who know the product inside out is especially valuable.

Hi Michelle,

I’m genuinely sorry to read how unhappy you are with your purchase and that this has been your lasting impression of Home & Roost. We do understand how frustrating it is when a product doesn’t meet expectations, particularly when it’s intended for a much-loved pet.

As explained during our email correspondence, the hutch purchased was one of our entry-level, budget models and is priced significantly lower than our more heavy-duty ranges. We’re always careful to provide full measurements on our listings so customers can assess suitability for their own setup, as rabbit size, usage, and environment can vary considerably.

All wooden hutches, regardless of price point, require protection and ongoing care when used outdoors — even for short or intermittent periods. Without treatment and protection from moisture, wood can unfortunately deteriorate, which is why our more robust ranges are recommended for customers wanting longer-term or regular outdoor use. 

You mentioned that you were not happy when the product initially arrived – had we been informed of this at the time, we would have been more than happy to help put it right, and this would have been covered with our 90 day returns policy.

The majority of our products do come with a 2-year warranty for parts. Unfortunately this model has since been discontinued and due to your comments regarding the size, I assumed that you would not want a replacement. Also, due to the age of the order, we would be unable to refund this. This was the reason I offered a goodwill discount for the full amount you originally paid, to put towards a more suitable product, which you understandably chose not to take up.

We also fully respect every customer’s right to leave feedback, even when it’s negative — that’s an important part of being transparent and improving as a business.

While we weren’t able to offer a refund due to the age of the purchase and the nature of the issues raised, we do appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.
