DO NOT TRUST VIVINT!!
DO NOT TRUST VIVINT!!! I cannot say enough bad things about this absolutely terrible, joke of a company.
A couple years back, we had a door salesman come by our house, even though I had a very clear and large NO SOLICITING sign on the door. It was a salesman from Vivint that claimed they didn't see the sign, of course a lie. Well, it just so happened we were in the market for a security system so we decided to hear him out. Upon speaking to the salesman, we actually decided to decline because we were going to move in the near future and the Vivint setup is a bit intense with installation. The salesman then quickly responded with, "No worries there sir! With Vivint, we will give you one free move credit where there will be no charge to remove the equipment and install it at the new house!" We thought that it was just too perfect to pass on, so we decided to sign up.
Other than a few technological hiccups, everything was fine...until we did decide to move.
I called their "award winning customer service," (which is a complete lie and Vivint paid for those "awards" through unknown companies by the way), to inform them of my move. Customer service is outsourced to the middle east, the associates speak broken English and simply do not care about your issues. Upon asking the first carless associate about the free move, they proceed to tell me he's never heard of that and they won't honor it! I then spoke to about 6 others over the span of 6 months on the phone and through their chat program, none of which were genuine, and they wouldn't honor the lying salesman's promise. Every single time I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor, they would provide an extremely generic excuse of why they weren't available, very shady and sneaky! One of the phone associates actually laughed at me saying that the move promise was a lie, very unprofessional. Shadiest customer service practices I've ever dealt with. "Award winning," best joke I've heard my entire life!
I have since given up working with Vivint, for obvious reasons, and have made it my personal mission to save unsuspecting Americans from being tricked and fooled by an absolute waste of space, joke of a security company that's not even American anymore. Upon conducting some heavy research, Vivint has been involved in NUMEROUS lawsuits for lying, overcharging, tacking on unknown fees, etc.. I found hundreds of posts online exactly like my situation where a door to door salesman also told them they offer 1 free move with their service. This has never been an official policy of Vivint, but they are clearly telling their salemen to either lie to everybody to make sales or maybe the salesmen also have no idea like us? Either way, it's creating chaos.
It wasn't until after I let Vivint know that I spoke to an attorney, the BBB and FTC, they suddenly wanted to help. Too late, clowns!
Again, please heed my warning for your own good and sanity! DO NOT TRUST VIVINT!!!
Douche bag company
This is a complete douche bag company. These people simply will not take "no" for an answer. Totally untrustworthy. And the so-called employees that knocks on people's doors are 100% unprofessional and totally disrespectful. I had to dial 911 for the last sales rep to leave my property. But did so "Before" law enforcement arrived & further vanished from the community. Why would you think someone would vacate the area before law enforcement arrives after being asked to leave several times??????
Absolutely no way on earth i would EVER buy anything from this company.
I have a complete ADT home security system AND an NVX closed circuit camera SYSTEM WITH 16 cameras. These buffoons actually think that i am willing to sacrifice my safety for a Vivint device that cant do half of what my NVX system can do. My neighbor buy a door camera via Vivint. One night we had some kids drive threw tossing eggs. The Vivint failed to capture make or model of vehicle in general. My NVX system has make, model, AND license plate of a vehicle that was in motion. HA.
Be Warned People. Reviews Matter. Choose wisely.
The installers were awesome
The installers were awesome. The company is a complete scam. Everything about them from the amount they charge for the equipment the way they don't tell you it's through some financial service other than them. Vivint calls you after you get their service to act like they are monitoring. The system probably only performs like they lie about for about a week. All kinds of problems occur. Most of the customers' service doesn't have a clue.I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
Review - Vivint Smart Home
Review – Vivint Smart Home
I’m leaving this review after going through the process of trying to close my Vivint account. The service itself works, but the cancellation process is extremely bureaucratic and unnecessarily complicated. Even after selling the home, moving to another country, and explaining all of this multiple times, they require redundant steps, multiple case numbers, and insist on phone calls that are impossible to make from abroad.
It feels as if the company intentionally creates barriers to delay or prevent customers from cancelling. I completed two chat sessions, received two different case IDs, sent emails, explained that I cannot call 1-800 numbers from outside the U.S., and still they offer no straightforward solution. What should take five minutes turns into a full-blown saga.
If you’re considering their service, be aware: it works while you’re a customer, but the moment you try to unsubscribe, the experience becomes slow, rigid, and frustrating. Far too much bureaucracy for something that should be simple.
Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service. Once they install the equipment they refuse to service it even though it’s under warranty.

Camera Won't Stay Online
Free 1 yr with solar. 6 mos ago. Doorbell camera doesn't stay online. Frequently goes down several times a day. I know how to get it back up. I don't need troubleshooting, but without this illogical act they won't send a technician. I'm further not paying $100 for a technician visit for something that has never worked. I will be removing the entirety of this system from my home. One of the most aggravating and worthless choices I ever made.
Not to be trusted
I'm shocked that the rating is as high as it is. If I could give zero stars, I would. The customer service is the WORST. I was a longtime customer (10+ years) and hadn't needed any repairs in several years. But over time some of the sensors failed and when I called to trouble shoot and/or get new ones, the nightmare began. Charges for everything so for four failed sensors, it was going to cost a few hundred to replace. Never mind that I had been overpaying for an outdated system for years (not my biggest knock against them since Vivint certainly isn't alone in leaving existing customers paying more while they give tons of deals to attract new customers). Calls would take so long that I'd have to get off (most of us don't have two free hours to trouble shoot) and then when I would call back, I'd have to start all over again. Why bother to enter call notes if they don't get used. Most of the customer service reps were difficult to understand, lots of attempts to upsell me rather than just addressing my issues, and with no authority to make decisions -- the number of times I was put on long holds while they tried to get approval from higher ups was mind boggline. Seven hours between calls and chats over the span of three days. One person was supposed to call me back at an agreed upon time because after nearly two hours, she still hadn't gotten permission to waive fees and equipment costs and then called me several hours after the set time when I wasn't free to pick up the call. Gave them multiple opportunities to try to make things right before finally deciding I was so DONE, and then it took an hour on the phone to cancel. Never again!
Transformer malfunctions
The installer mentioned that Vivint had bought out ADT. When I called ADT to cancel my account, I was told that is not true. A transformer that powers an outdoor camera, blinks continuous. The transformer is installed in my bedroom. Unable to sleep comfortable at night because of the blue blink light. Called the technician, he stated I can just put a cover over it because that's how it works. However, a second transformer installed in the garage does not blink.
Terrible Service
Vivint boast professional installation but they ship me a door lock and say I have to install it myself because they do not provide technicians for shipped products. I am suppose to install a security device with no experience or expertise.
Every customer service associate and supervisor I speak to are giving me the run around. When they sold me the service they were very nice and accommodating.
I am extremely dissatisfied and I will definitely will be letting it know as much as possible.
There is a myriad of issues but this is the latest that is very appalling and unacceptable.
Deceptive business practices
We should not be victimized by a company we rely upon for our physical safety.
Failure of Vivint to reimburse buyer for unauthorized $73.26 equipment charge during 60-day FREE trial period.
Start date with Vivint = 5/27/2025
Cancellation date = 6/25/2025 well within the 60-day free trial period
Vivint equipment removed = 7/3/2025
7/3/2025 – spoke with Juan Sebastian Eslava in the billing department via telephone about my $73.26 refund as the equipment had been removed & he stated that he was processing this check as we were on the phone. He lied.
7/31/2025 – no check received.
7/31/2025 - Spoke with Drake at Vivint then, transferred to Carlos Rodriguez in the Customer Loyalty Department. Carlos stated that he sent an email to Juan to contact me, which as of today 8/13/2025, he has not, nor has a check been received.
Verbal promises were made by the Vivint sales representative, Nilsson Rodas, of a 60-day trial period with no charges which would include no service or equipment charges plus Juan stated that he was processing the check for mailing on 7/3/2025. Both individuals lied to me.
This is NOT only a failure to follow through on verbal promises by the sales and the billing representative, but these are deceptive business practices and present & future customers need to be aware of their predatory business model.
EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER
The company is very misleading, misinformation and offers bogus incentives to entice you to buy there services and products. They use a 3rd party financing company which they dont tell you upfront, the next thing you know, you have a credit acct with a $6k credit limit, when the products total was $2999 which was NOT disclosed to me during the selection process. Installation service were no-shows several times. Tried canceling, but wanted to chrg me an early cancelation fee before i even had all equipment installed. DO NOT CONTRACT WITH THIS COMPANY!
Fraud Elert Vivint is a Scam
I was completely lied to about the quality of the cameras and the type of installation.
First of all the cameras annd equipment are complete junk. Like cheap knockoff junk!
Second I was told that I would get a hardwired system that had zero reliance on wife making it faster and more secure connection. What I got was a lazy installer who spent 12 hours in my shop to mount five cameras on a metal building and connect them to Wi-Fi.. oh yeah Wi-fi in a metal building. Literally 12 hours, 8 of which he spent in his van supposedly “configuring”. He spent 2 hours walking around on the phone. As if that was bad enough, when I attempted to resolve the many issues with customer service my call was repeatedly dropped
Many others in my neighborhood have had similar problems. It just so happens that one of those very dissatisfied neighbors is Consumer Protection Attorney.
The only reason I gave a 1* is that…
The only reason I gave a 1* is that there are no negative *s. This company is terrible on customer service, security equipment and handling of security issues. Their one strong point is charging you even when you cancel service.
Find a better provider in your area!
Vivint defective product
My electricity provider is Green Mountain Energy. I have been a loyal customer to Green Mountain Energy for eight plus years. Green Mountain Energy sent a person install thermostats to my house. The person who came to my house stole my thermostats. He installed Vivint thermostats that do not work properly. I have contacted both Green Mountain Energy and Vivint multiple times in writing and phone calls. However, my thermostats are not given back to me.
Absolutely terrible company with criminal business practices
Absolutely terrible company to work with. They are scammers and snuck things into the contract making us personally liable for a business account.
When requested to install the equipment in our office, they refused saying we were not in a serviceable area. This is AFTER we confirmed multiple times about installation. They sent 4 technicians all who refused to install the security system. After this they told us we signed a contract till 2028 and are demanding we pay over $5000 just to cancel the contract with them.
They outsourced their financing without notice to Citizen bank and opened a line of credit and now it is tanking my personal credit score due to Vivint's unprofessionalism, underhanded business practices, and overall borderline illegal operations.
When trying to call them they put you on hold for 3-4 hours and then cut the line. When they call you back the line goes silent. They leave no information or notes for the next service rep or supervisor and you start the process all over again. I have been on the phone with them for a total of 20+ hours!!!
I would refrain from getting involved with them in any way possible. I will be opening a legal case with them to get my money back on top of damages if I do not get a response.
Unresponsive company
April 11, 2025 I bought a security system from a sales person that was quite persistent. I was not ready to buy without researching the company and system, but relented and bought one. April 12, 2025 the installation technician installed the system. April 13, 2025 I found flying insects in the house and discovered the "bonus" hole the technician had drilled through my livingroom wall. April 25, 2025 I posed my review on Trustpilot. May 11, 2025 I received a reply from Vivint on Trustpilot that I would get an email for contact to fix the wall. May 13, 2025 I called Vivint to cancel my account, have their tech remove the equipment, and get a refund as was noted by the sales person. Took 34 minutes on the phone to accomplish this, then filed the requested paperwork the following day for the cancellation. May 16, 2025 I received the email I was promised on May 11, 2025. Vivint rep indicated I would receive a call to schedule a tech to remove the equipment after the account was cancelled. The Vivint app quit working on May 21, 2025 and I received a refund of $2.96 on my bank account from Vivint. During the ensuing weeks I call twice and was told that the account was "still under review". On May 30, 2025 I called for the technician and was told the account was closed but had not been released so a technician could not be scheduled. June 10, 2025 filed a complaint with the Provo, UT BBB. It is now June 12, 2025 and still no response from Vivint.
Unwanted half dressed sales
I clearly have a sign on my door that says no soliciting. Why did the two individuals ignore my sign TWICE?
1. How do you expect someone to purchase your security system when your reps can’t read or follow instructions?
2. Why when I answered through my current security system did they not answer when all 3 of my cameras clearly captured me talking to them? Did they think I would jeopardize my safety by opening my door?
3. Why are they half-dressed selling on your behalf?
This is very unprofessional behavior and I am requesting a response from your corporate office about these two individuals and their lack of respect for a person’s residence. Why would I even consider your service when it’s already showing you can’t read or follow instructions? Yes, I did come out and found them walking up and down my neighborhood in which once you enter also says NO SOLICITING. I will be submitting this also to the BBB and writing reviews on every platform I can find.
This is in the LaFrontera Trail community in Mansfield,Texas.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Currently their service is NOT…
Currently their service is NOT compatible with Samsung devices! The app does NOT run correctly since the last update & they are admitting it & seeming to not care (as usual) and disconnected a chat when I asked more about it and threatened to bring it to here. I screenshot it and gave up... AGAIN. This company has been nothing but issues and has charged me more & more money for the experience. I have even been advised by my local police to leave my home when this service has not been working and they WOULD NOT FIX IT that day, with several days of complaints, knowing there was a police involved issues. Just dont bother with this company!!!
Ongoing Nightmare with Vivint
I'm in the middle of an ongoing nightmare with Vivint trying to canceling an ongoing $65 dollar per month hit to my credit card for services I don't use and didn't know I was still being charged for. A call to Vivint resulted in 30 minutes on hold, then when answered another 20 minutes waiting to transferred to a "Loyalty Specialist," who is a person trained to talk you out of canceling. Then after enduring 20 minutes of sales pressure, I was told that I would need to call back after my next payment processes. So I will having to endure the same beating all over again.
