You know, now that I've had time to calm down and think about it, the EMTs were probably acting this way because they thought we were trying to "granny dump" a compromised elderly person on the hospital. I'm sure they deal with that a lot and it's exhausting.
His condition was clearly severe and they were still 100% in the wrong, but it makes more sense to me now why they didn't want to do their jobs.
update: he's in hospice now. His family has been notified. I don't think he'll make it to the end of the week.
I was always afraid I'd find him dead in his filthy trailer one day, surrounded by his hoard of trash...This is the "good ending" for him. He will have a dignified death in a clean, safe environment with pain management. I feel like everything worked out in the best way it could.
