Steve has been bottling his emotions up for so long, and right before the final battle something inside him finally snaps. He’s so angry at Eddie for everything that he put them through. For almost dying. For the reckless, selfish choice that nearly got him killed that night. He can’t take it anymore. It’s all just too much…

Post S5 Steddie 🦇 Ficlet/Prompt

Steve settles in Forest Hills while everyone else leaves Hawkins. He’s unable to secure a proper date, let alone have any kind of stable relationship. He can’t stop thinking about the past, about everyone who died. About Eddie. PTSD, they call it. He gets help from Wayne Munson, who lives next door and understands all too well what it’s like to wake up trapped in your own nightmares. Despite all that, Steve manages to live a quiet and seemingly happy life. But something isn’t clicking. Something’s missing.

Until the night the military shows up at his door, interrogating him about a winged humanoid creature that escaped their high security facility… Steve doesn’t understand what’s happening at first, but then he starts noticing the signs. Prickles down his spine at night… The constant feeling of being stalked… A strange shadow watching him from the edge of the woods… And his name whispered by a twisted familiar voice.

A bit of S5 Steddie Angst 🖤🦇🩹

Eddie comes back as an undead vampire, and Steve is both relieved and happy that he’s somehow “alive” but also utterly furious with him. He snaps at Eddie constantly, bitter and angry over what Eddie put Dustin through. He can’t stand being close to him and keeps trying to pick fights with him.

Until one day, Eddie locks the two of them in a room and refuses to let Steve leave until he finally explodes and lets all that anger out. Steve trashes the place, throws himself at Eddie, punches and insults flying. Eddie doesn’t fight back. He doesn’t need to anyway, he’s a lot stronger now. So he just lets Steve unload everything.

When the anger finally burns out all that’s left is a deep sadness and grief Steve never allowed himself to feel. He breaks down, sobbing in Eddie’s arms, clinging to him and apologizing. Eddie hushes him, apologizing too.

And then they finally kiss and have their very first real make-out session.

Steve: And what did Eddie do? He charged into a swarm of killer bats! And now he’s turned into this!

Dustin: He saved my life!!!

Steve: He saved no one. He made a dumb call, and he got himself killed.

Dustin throws himself at Steve, but Eddie stops him with one of his wings.

Eddie: Hey, hey. Henderson, stop. Steve’s just worried about you… and mad at me. With good reason. I was dumb and reckless. I paid the price. But I’m here now, and I’m not going anywhere.

Steve swipes at his teary eyes and they all hug.

Before the Crawl

Steve has had enough of the Upside Down, enough of being stuck in Hawkins, enough of monsters, failed crawls, and people sacrificing themselves to save the day. He’s moody all the time now. He snaps, lashes out, and picks pointless fights with everyone, even Dustin. Luckily, Eddie’s there to hold the reins, and tug the leash when he needs to. Because If there's someone who loves Steve's bratty side, it's Eddie... 😏
