Hello, fellow Drewds! I’m back with Chapter 4 of I Put a Spell on You (FINALLY)! I have no excuse for the delay except “life.”

In this post-S4 Nancy Drew fic, Nancy, Ace, and the Dads search for the Sin Eater in Salem, Massachusetts. In Chapter 4, after a shocking betrayal, Nancy and Ace must plan their next move. This one has lots of action, and many surprises!

I’ve added a quick recap in the fic’s notes in case you don’t remember anything (which, valid). There will be one more final chapter, which is already drafted and will be published soon!

A preview of Chapter 4:

Ryan leaned forward, his hand shielding his mouth from the other guests as he spoke in hushed tones.

“I’m not saying we should shoot anyone with a crossbow, but why can’t one of us confess a sin to draw the Sin Eater out? You said you found the Black Door.”

“No! I won’t hurt another Sin Eater—even without a crossbow, their transformation is so painful. I can’t do it again.” Nancy’s eyes were on fire as she whispered fiercely—she’d never hurt anyone like she’d hurt Tristan again. Or like she’d hurt Ace, for that matter.

“OK, OK. I get it. We have to trust someone, then.”

An (In)visible String Tied Me to You [1/7]

A year and a half ago, while rewatching the season 2 finale, the tendrils of the Wraith reminded me of soul bonds, like "Wraith Strings of Fate". The idea rattled around for a while before settling into a plot, which I have been calling the "plot demon" (affectionate). Here is the result: a season 3 red string of fate "I got four" soulmates AU

As her tea steeps, Nancy squeezes her eyes shut and pinches the bridge of her nose, trying to clear the spots of gold from her vision. When she opens her eyes, Bess has filled a glass of water and left it on the counter beside her. Nancy gulps it down. “Are you going to be alright on your own?” Bess asks, her calm facade faltering for a moment. Nancy nods. She still sees the gold stars, but she’s certain that a bit more rest will cure her. Bess’s phone buzzes with a text from Nick. She looks torn when she realizes he’s outside, waiting to drive her across town. “I’ll be fine,” Nancy promises, shooing Bess out the door. She leaves reluctantly, reminding Nancy to call if she needs anything. One of the gold lights seems to stretch, following Bess out the door, leaving a trail in its wake like the tail of a shooting star. As she turns, she spots the same red she had seen the night before. It, too, has stretched, grown like an arrow hovering in the air, pointing her towards Ace’s house a few blocks away. As she pictures his house, the red line seems to shimmer, gently pulling her heart toward him. There’s a hint of urgency to the sensation, as if her mind hasn’t shaken off the intensity of the dreamscape, wanting to share a piece of her experience with him.

Making myself clean up little things and actually post them instead of letting them languish in my google docs forever? Couldn't be me. Read on AO3

Touching #2 - running fingers through hair

“I’m being completely serious. You have gray hair. Just the one. It’s not even gray, really. More white. Silver,” she settles on.

“I do not have a gray hair.”

Nancy barks a laugh. “And how would you know? Do you check every day?”

“Yes!”

Silence falls for a moment, Nancy twisting his hair this way and that in the light. “What should we name her?” she asks, finally.

“Why is it a her?”

“Why wouldn’t it be? You make everything female. Ruth, the deep fryer, Madeline your pocket knife, Nanette your Eagle Scout whistle, Florence.”

“Don’t bring Florence into this.”

Double Date

One of the prompts for the latest @nacediscord sprint event was "double date," and being on Spring Break meant that I could spend the whole day writing. The result? Three times Nancy and Ace accidentally end up on double dates, and one time they get a double date all to themselves

A Preview:

“Would you like to join them?” the waiter offered when he noticed the foursome standing around the table, casually chatting. Nancy couldn’t be mad – he clearly thought he was helping – but then it was too late to say no, too late to find a polite way to tell her dad and step-mom that she really didn’t want to be on a double date with them. “I’ll make it up to you,” Ace promised, his breath hot against her cheek as he leaned in to whisper in her ear. “You’d better,” she murmured, squeezing his thigh once under the table before she pulled her hand away, the picture of poise as she joined Jean and Carson’s debate about their latest case.

Mishloach Manot

Happy Purim, my Drewds! In honor of my favorite Jewish holiday, I wanted to write a little snippet of Nancy and Ace celebrating Purim together for the first time, featuring Rebecca teaching Nancy to make hamentaschen:

“Half a spoonful is all you need,” Rebecca narrated as she carefully scooped out half a spoonful of the apricot filling and pushed it onto the center of one of the dough circles. “Press it down a little with the back of the spoon. Then you fold one side at a time. Give the corners a little pinch to keep them together. Got it?” Nancy reached for the bowl of raspberry, letting her perfect memory walk her through the same steps she had just watched. After she pinched the corners, she looked to Rebecca, who was holding back tears on her otherwise proud face.
