the thing about gawain and the green knight is it’s so literal. even if it doesn’t seem that way. a great example of this is when the giants appear— gawain is, literally, walking (unnoticed) among giants like he walks metaphorically unnoticed among giants in king arthur’s court. he asks the giants where they’re going and if he can get a ride on their shoulder and they leave him. he can’t be brought into legend on the backs of others. his uncle is king arthur and it doesn’t matter.
I went to Longwood Gardens to see their Christmas displays, and I may have spent a good chunk of my visit in front of this tree that they had decorated for wildlife. I saw 13 species of birds and a squirrel taking advantage of the food sources

Everyone’s going on about having a ‘traditional, old-fashioned Christmas’, but when I burst into the house covered in green paint and demand a champion strike my head from my shoulders with my own axe so that I may return the blow next year, I’m ‘scaring Grandma’.
